Regarding yesterday's post - the floating frames: I got a lot of questions. The biggest one - how do you attach the panels to the backing? The framer recommended silicone, OR if you're in a hurry, hot glue. I also got - I can't find them on the website, how do I order them? Just pick a frame you like from the King of Frame website and ask for it as a floating frame. You can either email them or call the 1-800 number - see their contact page.

I got some very nice floating frames recently from King of Frame (see photos below). They are basically regular frames that are a bit too big, with a black backing. Then the panel sits just on top of the backing, with a small space all the way around. They are SO PERFECT for these small panels because often an important part near the edge is covered up by the overlap of a regular frame. I think they look super fantabulosimo!!

I hope everyone had a fantabulous Thanksgiving! In honor of Black Friday I am listing several landscapes I've done - 3 from Lost Maples & 3 from Florida - as make me an offer listings. The top left is from Lost Maples and we got up REALLY early to catch the light AND just about froze our tuckuses off. I was so cold I didn't notice that I had divided the canvas in half with the tree line, but I still like it. After much deliberation I've decided to put the rest of my landscapes from last week in my Ebay store, as "make me an offer" listings. I struggle with landscapes, and while I like the ones I'll post (I wiped the rest) I'd rather you guys decide what they're worth.

The story behind the painting below: One day at Lost Maples, Penny and I took a hike to find a new painting spot. After a couple of hours, with heavy packs full of painting gear on our backs, we came across a guy and his dog. He said "there's some stress up ahead." We thought - ok... After a few minutes and some extreme uphill, we thought "stress" was an understatement. But at the top we came out into this beautiful clearing with fields of this light grass and a few clumps of dark cedar. I said "Penny, even though we're hungry and tired and don't have much water left and it's another hour hike back to the car, we've got to paint this." So we did.

Above is another painting from Lost Maples last week. I was standing in a small field in late afternoon with just one shaft of light shining across some of the grass. It was such a neat effect and I painted furiously to capture it. This is my favorite painting from the week.

This is the first of my paintings from my trip to Lost Maples last week. We tried to get there when the leaves were peaking with color, but we missed it by a few days. Apparently the conditions (dry & windy) blew most of the leaves away early. We still saw some color but it was tough to find.

Below is the REAL final painting from my recent trip to Arizona with James Coulter (see his blog for his paintings from this trip). It's a nocturne from Jerome and I sold it on the spot, to the owner of the beetle, Jennifer, the bartender from the Spirit Room. She came out and said "it's so cute - it's my car!!" Thanks for the photo, Jennifer!

Well, you won't believe this but I completely forgot to take pictures AGAIN today - of the paintings from my trip to Lost Maples. So I am posting a figure painting I did a while back but completely forgot to post (geez - all this forgetting - you'd think I'm getting old) AND, as a sort of bonus/apology, the last of my trucks from Arizona. The truck is not for sale - rather, it will be displayed in California soon at Randy Higbee's upcoming 6x6 show (more about that later).

Apples are short. They can't see anything very high. So these guys got together and formed a pyramid so they could see higher. But the one on top was so stunned by what it saw that it was silent for a while. So the ones below started asking, a bit frantically, "what do you see?"

This VW was parked in Jerome and I'm telling you I RAN to it when I saw it. I told James I HAD to paint the van on the hill and took off before he could get a word in edgewise. And my favorite part? - the turquoise semi-circle on the windsheild sunshade. Dude!

The owner of the Gold King Mine, Don, called these 2 the working girls. He explained why, but it was car specific and I can't remember. Sorry. But I thought they were super cool, especially in this dramatic morning light.

This painting was done in the afternoon when suddenly the clouds appeared and everything went flat. I set up to paint these 3 trucks because they looked good without the light. Right before I finished the sun came back out, but only in the front because of the shadow of the mountain, and I decided it would still work (and maybe better) if I put the pink shafts of light in. So I did. : )

When I was set up to paint this I was very aware of a buzzing nearby. Upon exploration I found a hole in the hillside several feet from where I stood with bees streaming in and out. Luckily, my parents had a hive when I was growing up so I didn't ... you know, freak out or anything. And I didn't get stung.

On a less buggy note, one of my paintings is now on the cover of a book! Perishables by Tina Egnoski (see below).

We quickly moved on to the Gold King Mine just outside of Jerome, Arizona to paint old trucks. This place is literally a gold mine for artists ... artists who like to paint old trucks and stuff ... like me. : ) Don, the proprietor, is a kooky old guy - we enjoyed getting to know him. My painting buddy, James, just started a new blog where you can see his airplanes - and trucks too, soon.

Our first stop in Arizona was the Pima Air Museum outside of Tucson. There we found lots of cool stuff. But, airplanes are - well they're big and hard to make a composition from, especially on such a small canvas. So instead of painting whole planes, I ended up painting parts of planes. I traded the one above for one my buddy James painted. The one below is an engine from a particularly large plane.
