Out Standing in Their Field

Click Here to Bid (4x5in. - GOUACHE - starts at $50)

This is from a drive up north (from Missoula) into the area just south of Flathead Lake. There are lots of farms nestled in the valleys, which I find just beautiful with their backdrop of foothills. I was happy to find cows, as I've been itching to use this title for a long time.

Cow Conference

Click Here to Bid (6x8in. - starts at $100)

I'm heading back to Germany soon, so I thought I'd dig through my old Germany files. After I painted these guys (my mother-in-law's cows), I realized I already had once before. Oh well. I actually love seeing the differences.

Cow Powow

The last few days I've been working on a series of cow paintings that have brought me much joy! I'll talk about the joy part later, but for now I have more immediate news...

I am heading to California tomorrow to join 6 other artists on a hiking/camping/plein air trip into the Sierras! I'm really excited about this trip, because not only will it be ALL about art, but I will be hanging with some pretty awesome artists! We will have our camping gear hauled in on pack animals (mules I think?) and our food cooked for us - all we have to carry is our painting gear. I'll be bringing my camera too and will give a full report when I return. That is, if I'm not eaten by bears or mountain lions, or fall off a cliff (if I say it, it won't happen).

Meanwhile, I'll pre-post the cows so you can enjoy them while I'm away. As usual, I won't be able to ship anything until I return (as late as the 25th). Toodles!

Moo's-ville

sold

More cows - this one a little bigger. I've done a few of these cow paintings lately, and I don't know if you've noticed, but I've experimented a bit with them. I've varied the brush strokes, colors, and amount of detail. This was the last one (for now), and my favorite, which is how it usually goes.

Cow Power

sold

Every year, for the past 5 years, at about this time, I announce a new book/collection of 100 small paintings from that year. But this time I'll be a little late. And it's not for lack of trying! For the last 3 years I've been using a company called Magcloud to print my books, but recently they were bought by Blurb, which is the company I switched FROM in the first place, because I became unhappy with them. I decided to give Magcloud the benefit of the doubt but unfortunately the new book was not up to par! So I pulled all the rest of my books from their site, and am exploring other options. It's not final yet, but I am working with a local company that assures me they can do what I want. So, with any luck, I'll be announcing the next book (#6!) sometime in January. AND, I plan to list it and all my other books/collections on Amazon. I'll let you know when it happens.

Outstanding in Their Field

sold

I still have tons of photos of cows taken when I was in Germany last time. I'm enjoying having a variety of things to paint. It prevents ruts.

Cow Crowd

sold

My workshop last week went really well. Besides being periodically covered in paint, my kids behaved themselves quite well, and painted even better. I completely forgot to take pictures until the last day, and only got a few.

Being that it was an advanced workshop, we tackled some difficult subjects: white, flowers, reflections on a glass surface, flowers and metal. They also spent one day working on a larger still life painting.

Right after the workshop I had a little adventure in backpacking, which I will post about soon. Meanwhile, here is my group of cute kiddies from this last workshop, below. Y'all were great!

ps. The cow painting above is another from Germany...

Curious Cows

sold

As promised, here are a few of the cows I photographed and painted in Germany. These gals were so curious about me. Whenever I walked into their field they rushed over to see what I was about. Then, when they were about 10 feet away, they stopped and stared. After a while they got bored and started looking for things to eat again.

Cozy Cows

Here are a few cows I photographed forever ago in Germany. The light was perfect! What I need to find is someone with cows here in Oregon. I would love to get out in a field with animals (any kind really) and take pictures all day. I've wanted to do this for a while.

Many thanks to those of you emailing me about workshops!! I appreciate the help.

Cows Grazing

My body is in Wisconsin but my mind is still back in Germany, I mean Texas, I mean ... where the heck am I anyway??? The cows were definitely in Germany. Am I tired or is this title just a wee bit obvious?!

"Cowabunga" - SOLD

This is my favorite of the cows, and the last for now. It was one of those that just seemed to appear on the canvas as if by magic.
Meanwhile, my husband is almost done with my new workbench, meaning I can finally move my office and shipping area out of ... the bathroom. I've posted some photos of each on my studio blog. : )

"Looky There" - SOLD

I have 2 photos of these cows - one of them looking away (this one) and one of them looking right at me. That's the problem with cows - they're TOO curious. This was late in the day with just glancing light, which made their legs do fabulous things. That pink isn't made up.

"Kid Kows" - SOLD

I took a zillion photos of cows in Germany and finally decided to dig some out and paint from them. I had so much fun - cows are cool. I've actually wanted to paint them for a long time now. I've taken pictures before, but always seem to catch them on overcast days. I finally got some sun!

And here is another painting that will be in the show starting this Saturday at the Wally Workman Gallery. It's called Reaching Out, 20x28in.
