Cherry-o's

Forever ago I bought some fabric paint called Neopaque, and have just started to experiment with it. It's great stuff. Way better than just plain old acrylic paint (duh). You iron it afterwards which gets out all the kinks from the wet paint. I painted these little circle-dots yesterday and today found cherries were back in again! Yay!

Reaching Right

One great thing about sunflowers - they are unwavering. I've had these guys for about a week and they are still going strong. For this reason they are probably my favorite still life flower.

Don't Spill Your Milk

I just couldn't help painting this cup again. See, I had this vision when I bought it. I was going to paint this cup with milk in it and it was going to be "awesome." I guess there was so much anticipation, doing it once just wasn't enough. So here it is again.

Letting Go

I found this cute vase on a recent trip to Portland. I still can't believe I live 2 hours from Portland, OR. Not that I'd rather live there, but it is pretty cool to visit.

Vintage Milk

This is my example painting for this week's Daily Paintworks Challenge - The Polka-Dot Challenge! This is my favorite recent find on Ebay. Doesn't it remind you of the requisite glass of milk we all drank as kids with dinner?

NEW ARTBYTE: I just put out a new online lesson. This one's on proportion. It is called "Getting Proportions Right" and if you're interested you'll find it in the DPW ArtByte Store.

Hipsters

I love this one! There, I've said it. And I think it mostly has to do with this cool patterned fabric I just got from Spoonflower. To start with I ordered some existing patterns, but my next step is to design my own, which I think is just a brilliant idea on somebody's part.

The workshop I mentioned yesterday is now full but I wanted to mention that the wait lists are very often consulted! Don't hesitate to get on them. In my last class about 3/4 were on the wait list and got in anyway.

Sunny in Blue

I got this blue vase on Ebay recently. It suddenly occurred to me I could probably find some cool ones there. Duh.

WORKSHOP: April 15-19, 2013 in San Francisco - this is a special workshop, different from what I usually do. We will spend the mornings painting and the afternoons wandering/exploring the city taking photographs of people/buildings/things to paint, with one day of full painting. Someone will be on hand to print out reference photos. Register with the Sedona Arts Center.

Bell Halves

Look familiar? I posted this exact painting a while ago, and it sold, but my buyer didn't come through. I hate it when that happens, but it does occasionally. I waited too long to be able to offer it to the next highest bidder, so now I am doing the auction all over again, which seems like the only logical choice.

What Are You Waiting For?

This is from one of the photographs I took on the beach in Georgia. I love the expectant dog and the tennis ball thrower. It was really fun doing people for a change.

Marsh in the Morning

This is my last painting from Georgia. When I wasn't painting I took lots of pictures of all kinds of things, some of which I hope to paint. : )

Edge of the Marsh

Home again, home again, dickety dock, but here's another painting from Georgia. It was right near the spot from yesterday's clouds, in a place where the marsh seemed to meet the ocean. I was all alone and honestly feared an alligator might pop out and eat me at any moment. So you could say ... I risked my life for this painting.

Clouds Over Water

Above is another painting from Georgia, and below are a few moments I captured at my Sedona workshop (just finished up today): a couple of great squints, a Ruthie snacking, and some careful arranging.

Below are my demos and one painting I did after class one day (sold).

And last but not least, a photo of me and my lovely kids. They were a fun group, but a little obsessed with underwear for some strange reason. Nonetheless, we had a great time!

Island Cabin

I have not fallen off the face of the Earth! It may seem like it, I know, but I haven't. I spent all last week hangin' with my buds, painting on St. Simon's Island in Georgia. It was good to get out, good to paint something different, and so so good to get some quality girlfriend time. Above is the first painting I did, and below is our little "gaggle": (left to right) Kathy, Mary, me and my wine, Kelley and Laurel. More soon (I promise)!!

After Georgia I flew straight to Sedona where I am now in the middle of a 5-day workshop. Today we did some 10-minute paintings, and there was so much grumbling I almost had to make them do push-ups!

Aimless Pears

Did I say I was going to do plein air? I meant plain pears. Ha! Just kidding. I have been having an absolute ball here in Georgia with my buds. Unfortunately most of it I cannot report, as we have agreed ... what happens in Georgia stays in ... well, you know. But I will do my best to photograph some of my work tomorrow so I can post it. I know I have at least 2 that are worth showing, and we'll be here 2 days more still.

ps. I have been mostly ignoring email (sorry - between painting, carrying on, giggling, eating, drinking and drinking some more, there hasn't been time) so if you emailed me I will get back to you ... eventually.

I am in Georgia for the week, ready to do a little plein air painting with four fabulous friends of mine! We will start tomorrow, weather permitting, and I will post whatever good comes out of it.

Pear Bath

I am sitting in a little cottage right off of Cannon Beach, on an impromptu getaway with my husband! The pear I left at home. Poor pear.
