Go Goose

Click Here to Bid - 5x7in. - oil on panel

When I was a little kid my family had some geese for a while. I was terrified of them because they would chase me. My parents said - just turn around and chase them back. But they outnumbered me! To this day I'm still terrified if I see a pack of them. One I can handle.

Sweet Seeker

This one has a bit of palette knife work, so I took a second photo (with my phone, so the colors look a little different). If you click on either image you can see them larger.

This is a yellow-collared lovebird, coming in for a surprise, love attack. I couldn't resist.

Twisty Perch

Click Here to Bid - 6x8in. - oil on panel

A lot of the bird photos I find include pretty uninspiring perches. This bird (a Coal Tit) picked a lovely branch to sit on. Many thanks to the bird and the photographer!

You're My Bird

Click Here to Bid - 8x6in. - oil on panel

I found the adorable reference for this one on a new (to me) site called Envato. I always thought it would be prohibitively expensive to buy reference images, but this one has a reasonable subscription plan.

Credit for the title goes to MY bird, Mr. Marine.

Peli

I've only painted a handful of pelicans, but I think they're really marvelous. We once came across an old one at the coast in Oregon. It was a little ornery (probably because it was old and hurting), but it was so cool to see it up close.

Cheeky

I've got some older work that's been sitting around, so I've decided to put some things on sale. Check out my "available" page to see if there's anything you might like to have. Thanks!

In the next moment, she's gone.
Bye bye, birdie.

Yes Toucan

Click Here to Bid - 5x7in. - oil on panel

This probably isn't what you have in mind when you hear toucan, but it is in the toucan family. I just loved the colors. I actually had to UN-exaggerate (gray them down a little) them for it to be believable.

Pretty Perch

It finally got cold here in Missoula. Here's a tropical bird to remind me that it's still warm somewhere.

Bright Birds

Here are a couple of lovebirds for your post Thanksgiving ate-too-much, just-going-to-sit-here-and-peruse-the-internet daze. Me too.

Mildly Curious

Click Here to Bid - 6x6in. - oil on panel

I found one great reference photo for this, but now I'm trying to figure out what kind of bird it is. The file just says "Sinichka." Is this a kind of bird? When I search for it I get a lot about a Russian TV series. ??

King Fisher

This bird is called a Kingfisher. I guess for good reason.

Seriously Considering It

Click Here to Bid - 6x8in. - oil on panel

I think birds are so cool. This is another animal I'd like to get my own photos of. First I'd have to invest in a really good telephoto lens. Well, and then find the birds. And probably I'd have to develop you know like, patience. Until then I'll use other people's photos. This was a nice one.

Ever Watchful

This month's challenge on Daily Paintworks is The Feather Challenge, so I thought I'd do something different and paint a bird. It was a lovely experience painting this serene guy. Gal?

Beach Day

Click Here to Purchase for $40 - 4x4in. - collage on illustration board

This one reminds me of being a kid at the beach, with the sun high in the sky, the water cool at your feet, the seagulls trying to get any morsel of food, and the inevitable sunburn.

City Bird

Click Here to Buy for $50 - 5x5in. - collage on illustration board

These little 5x5in. collages go well in a standard 8x8in. frame. I got this one from Amazon, and put a light gray sheet of paper behind the collage. (frame not included)

Wonder

My husband kept telling me it would be cool to see groupings of my collages, but the how of it didn't click for me until recently. Each of these squares is collage on a 2x2in. piece of illustration board, and all 9 are mounted with archival PVA glue on a piece of white matte board. The whole thing can be placed into an 8x8in. frame, and is basically self-matted. I'm really happy with it! : )

Chickadee

Click Here to Buy for $35 - 4x4in. - mixed media on illustration board

Lately I had the idea to make little drawings and add them to my collages. I bought myself some good, waterproof pens of varying sizes, and jumped in. Right before this I spent a couple of weeks making little paper mache birds, just for fun, so I guess I've got birds on my mind.

Pig Want Egg

I'm enjoying playing around with little, leaning, bits of paper in my still lifes. They make especially nice shadows, and throw lovely reflections back on things.
