Here's another big cat. I strangely remember painting quite a few of these, but apparently I've only painted three before this one. And only 48 cats in general.
When I was coming up with a title for this, the words lion and king kept coming up in my head, I think because this guy is so regal looking. When I finally remembered it was also the name of a famous movie (duh), I thought, oh I can't use that, it's taken. But that's not a thing! Because if every title had to be unique, we would have run out a long time ago. This is unfortunately a real problem with domain names, which is something my husband and I were trying to brainstorm recently. How are we going to fix that problem?!
I'm doing something a little different in my process of posting - I'm letting my paintings dry enough to varnish and then taking photos. This helps me get a more accurate photo, especially for darks, which dry to a lighter value, until varnished. This will also eliminate any wait time for shipping, as they are completely ready to go at this point.
I've been asked quite a few times lately to make a gouache tutorial. But I've only been using this medium now for a few months. And I have just as many paintings that work out as don't. As soon as I start seeing some patterns of things that lead to success, you can bet I'll start writing them down. And when I have enough of those things, and I'm sure they might actually be helpful, I will share. Until then, here's another experiment that I like. : ) Thank you for your patience.
It probably makes sense that I like big cats, considering I'm a Leo. They are such magestic animals. This is another one I did from a Pixabay reference. I think it's a tiger?
And above are some little studies I did for this month's DPW Challenge. The idea is to choose a subject and do a series that slowly gets simpler (but still reads like the thing). I did two sets, so top left of each set are my "complex" versions - ha! #2 is top, right, #3 is bottom, left, and #4 is bottom, right. This was hard for me!! My husband says it's because I already simplify my subjects. He's probably right. But if you find yourself overworking, and want to simplify, join us in this challenge!
