You might think this isn't very different from the other rose paintings I posted recently, but anytime the scene includes reflections like this, the challenge of painting it goes WAY up. It almost broke me.

This little pig I have is very critical. He said, "Why are you stacking those apples in that jar? No one would ever do that. Who is going to want a painting of it?" So I stuck him in the painting and he shut up.

Recently I hosted a dinner party for my ladies night group. I had plenty of food so I told them - just bring yourselves! But they're all really nice people, so they brought me a plethora of flowers (awww). They were so beautiful that I spent the next 3 days photographing them in various situations with the idea that I would paint at least some of them. So here's the first one, with a big thank you to my lovely friends!!

Sometimes a composition asks for a large panel, and sometimes it wants to be born small. They tell me what they want after I'm done putting them together. As long as they ask nicely then I'm fine with it.

For almost half a year I have been dealing with a health issue that has greatly affected my life. I have been seeing doctors but they are so far baffled by my symptoms. Fortunately I am still able to paint, but that is just about all. Recently I made the hard decision to cancel my workshop that would have happened this summer, and I'm so sorry to those of you who were signed up for that. Recently I was referred to the Mayo Clinic and will hopefully get some answers there.

This is the one still life I did recently that made me realize I have to wait longer to do more. I had it set up in my shadowbox and just turning my head back and forth from it to my painting hurt my still recovering neck - specifically looking the left. I might try to reconfigure my studio, but I'm having too much fun painting flowers and animals. Hopefully by the time I get tired of them, I'll be able to look left again.

My parents had 4 kids. That was just a fact of life for me growing up. But now I see that 4 is pretty big number, kid-wise. So I asked them one day - how did you do it? And my dad said, "Well, it was mostly a matter of just making sure you were all still around, on a regular basis. A lot of counting. 1 - 2 - 3 - 4. Yep, they're all still alive."
