Mom Needs Shade

Click Here to Bid - 6x8in. - oil on panel

This little girl was entertaining herself with a dance while her mom took a snack break in the shade of the pier. I picked the reference with the best pose, and then had to move her over a bit so she didn't line up in funny ways with the posts. It was challenging, but I'm happy with the result. : )

Trash Talk

Click Here to Bid (6x6in. - starts at $100)

Here's a quaint Oregon scene. I took the reference photos a few years ago, on the way to visit some friends out in the country. What you can't see is the washer/dryer set off the left. And the 15 other cars in various states of disrepair.

Settling In

Click Here to Bid (6x6in. - starts at $100)

Here's a little scene from France. I thought this guy was going to be easy to paint, but I had to redo his face probably 5 times. Unfortunately I also couldn't seem to get a picture without some glare on that top, right corner. I will try again.

Little Landing

sold. (7x5in.)

Another Portland neighborhood scene. I'm glad to live close to such a cool city!

Waiting Room

sold. (8x10in.)

Yesterday's title might have worked better for this one. Alas. This is a scene from Lake Tahoe, from a photo I took summer before last. My friend and I were roaming around a little resort with a bunch of cute cabins and paths and chairs. I'm not sure how to categorize the painting - landscape? At any rate, I'm quite happy with it. It's one of those that just painted itself.

A Nice Place to Sit

sold. (6x6in.)

I titled this just a minute ago, but now I'm second-guessing my choice. I mean, if you sat in the chair, the sun would be just right, smack in your eye. Unless your head just happened to be in that little sliver of shadow. But if you turned the chair a little to the right ... it would be perfect. So I guess I'll keep it. : )

Disorderly Roses

sold

This is a scene from around my town of Eugene, OR. I was taken by the disorderly rose bush by the front porch, but somehow in the painting it turned out more orderly than it really was.

Yellow Dress (& Ali in the Garden, Sketch)

sold

This morning I painted with some gals who've been painting together lately, under the tutelage of my friend, Sarah. Today they hired a model to pose outside, and graciously invited me to join them. The day started out overcast, so we sketched until the sun came out (the weather guys actually got it right for once!) and then painted furiously. Everyone else was working on larger pieces, but I came with the idea that I would do some small sketches (6x6) and see what happened. Below is the first one, which I spent an hour on, and above is the longer one (about 2 hours). I'm starting the bidding for the one below at $1 since it's a bit sketchy. Despite our poor model baking by the end and getting a weird sunburn on her knees, she was great! We had a fun day and I hope these painting gals will invite me again.

A Quiet Room

sold

The picture for this one came from a B&B I stayed at last fall in Massachusetts. Every room was incredibly simple, which made it perfect for photographing!

Tomorrow, early I am flying to Santa Fe for an advanced workshop with some old kids ... ok, when I say that, I mean they were kids ... errr, of mine, well, anyway, uhhhh, so I'm teaching in Santa Fe next week. That's all. : )

Chair in the Sun

This is a little bit of an unusual composition, but I like it. It seemed awfully quaint with the little folding chair and the orange flowers off to the side.

Nested Bowls

I just posted a ton of info on my New Beginnings blog about my new tripod and shadowbox. It took a lot of work so you'd better check it out. I mean it. Oh, and happy 2012 (grumble grumble). : )

Front Room

I stayed at a bed and breakfast recently in Massachusetts with a friend. It was a really cool old house, beautifully decorated, with great light! And to top it off the breakfast's were amazing! It was called the Baird Tavern, and this was the front room.

"Table For One" - SOLD

This is from the same overcast day in Freiburg, Germany ... down the street from the market. Freiburg is a really cool city. There were beautiful things everywhere. I do prefer direct sunlight, but some things work without it. Like this. I'm really enjoying painting new things!
