Click Here to BidFor all of you who guessed the portrait I posted yesterday was of my son, I am sorry to disappoint. His name is Isaac and he is the son of my very good friend Karen (who was out all day and didn't see my blog until tonight!). Our kids are one month apart in age, and good friends. But while they are both silly, I would argue my son is more the ham. Hence the scissors, below, in my son's hands. And for this one I did have fussy parents: myself and my husband. We both agree he looks a little older here than reality, but still more or less like Jacob.

Such an endearing portrait of your son, Carol. It is so charming and captures so much of naughtiness. I agree we are at our fussy best when it comes to painting our own kids! :) Great to see your portraits, love the color in them.

Have been under the weather and have not posted for awhile. Both portraits are fabulous. When your paint portraits for fun and not for commission, I think you can be more spontaneous. I wonder what your son is getting ready to do with those scissors. His smile gives nothing away except for maybe mischief. Carol, you are a wonderful loving mother and artist.
I thought this looked like the image of yourself in the photo. He must look like you from the dimples ... :)
Well, they even LOOk a little alike! Funny painting with scissors! I think you should paint people more - whenever it hits you - because you have a beautiful sensitivity about them. But portraits... eeeks... (my eyes aren't that small, my neck is longer, why is my head that shape... etc!).
You can paint anything and your style always shines through. Such a cute portrait of your son and I LOVE the painting of the shoes.

I think you can paint anything you desire with your talent. I also think that your portraits are some of the most wonderful that I have seen. You are capturing that spirit and essence of the person...Beautiful painting of your son. Love the impish smile and the eyes are amazing- there is that light and affection again!

Now of course you know better than I, but I'd say he looks more like more than less like himself. Love the shoes, but what woman doesn't.

I like the way his eyes look out then my eyes go to the hands and then up to the scissors and around. Nice composition!
Look at the mischief on his face! Wonderful, wonderful work Carol. I love the loose way that you paint your portraits, it looks effortless even though I'm sure it's not. I'd really like to know your thoughts about painting your own son, as opposed to people you aren't quite as close to. Is it as rewarding? Which do you prefer?
P.S. Dudette, those shoes are rockin. I SO need them. :)
Just adorable in every way. When one of my children was about that age, they used scissors to give a haircut to another child. Hope you don't have the same encounter. Ha!! Should have seen that haircut...
