I've been taking a few days off to do some woodworking projects. I'm currently making new cabinet doors for our bathroom. : ) And helping my husband re-organize the garage/shop for better workflow. It helps me so much to have another "creative" outlet. Also I spent a fair amount of my childhood out in my dad's wood shop, so all the tools and wood smells are very familiar.

Here's a sunny scene from Überlingen, Germany. This cafe was right at the "mouth" of the market I was photographing, so I got a few angles, and a couple rotations of visitors. I have a feeling it will appear in future paintings as well.

I've painted this same scene before, from a different angle, and a different crop. It's from Seattle, near the Pike Place Market. There's a place I need to visit again too!

The Red Bucket

This was a little moment in front of a cafe in NYC. What is the purpose of the red bucket? I have no clue, but it looks good there.

I am still painting away in Germany, but have wiped off half my landscapes so far. Plein air is HARD! This morning, after a particularly terrible attempt, I had to sit down and cry a little before I could go on. I think I'll do that more often, as the next two paintings weren't half bad. : )

Right after I asked my new German family for title suggestions I realized, to my dismay, they would all be in German. And I would have to translate. I am trying my best to learn, and am getting better, but it is slow. My sentences are very simple, and I find my English sentences getting simpler as well. : )

We are safely in Germany and (slowly) recovering from jetlag. We are catching up on sleep, visiting and fun! It will be a wonderful holiday and maybe I'll paint some too. : ) Meanwhile I will post some paintings from before I left. This one was particularly fun. I loved the challenge of the shadows on the fruit.

Since someone asked, I am in central Canada, Alberta province, near Red Deer. The weather is still absolutely glorious! And the kids are good so far. These Canadians are extra nice. I'll have pictures soon.

I think we artists all have something we are striving for. I was going to write - something we want to say - but it's more like ... we're always striving for what we consider a "perfect painting". And that painting is different for all of us. And maybe we each have more than one in mind. But sometimes I get a little close to something (never perfect) and this one I think gets me somewhere. I'm not sure exactly why.
