Market in the Trees

Click Here to Bid - 8x8in. - oil on panel

A few weeks ago my husband and I drove over to Spokane & Coeur d'Alene to explore their Saturday markets for reference material. We found the one in Spokane to be fairly underwhelming. This is a scene from the one in Coeur d'Alene, which was nestled in the trees. It made for lovely ambience, and cool shopping, but fairly dark photos. I was thrilled when these two stepped into the light!

Saturday Morning with Dad

Click Here to Bid (8x8in. - starts at $100)

I took the references for this one at our Saturday Market here in Eugene, right before I left for Italy. What's funny is that I felt really funny about taking pictures of people in my hometown, when I don't at all when I'm anywhere else. I ended up leaving after about 20 minutes, and this was really the only usable scene I captured. What was I afraid of? I'm not sure. Anyone else had this experience?

The Top Spot

sold

I took the photo for this one at the Eugene Saturday Market. The background was super busy so I played around with the photo in Photoshop before I painted it, trying out different colors and values. I'm pretty happy with the result.

First Date at the Food Stand

sold

When I spotted this couple at the food stand at the Saturday Market in Eugene last year, they seemed so awkward together, I figured they were on a first date. Apparently she got her food first, which definitely means points for him!

Man With Plants

sold

The photo for this one came from our local Saturday market, and while I loved the guy with his plants, the background was impossibly complicated. I decided to really sketch it in with some darks, but when I was done it looked a little too simple. I added a few colors to break it up. Did it work?

Red Coat

Buy Now $90

I snapped the photo for this at the Saturday Market here in Eugene last spring. I love the red coat. I took my time painting - didn't rush any bit of it. Took 3 hours, which is quite a bit longer than usual. I'm really proud of this one.

Hot Spot

sold

I took the picture for this one at the Saturday Market here in Eugene, earlier this year, when it was just starting to warm up for spring. All these folks were sitting around listening to music, but this one little gal was enjoying the sun and looking off in the opposite direction. I had to redo her face a few times, but I feel really good about it now.

Little Buddy

This is a small scene from a photo I took at Eugene's Saturday Market. I am including the reference below. We had a lovely time camping, and now I am off for another vacation (I know, very indulgent of me!) to visit a friend in San Francisco for the weekend.

Market Coffee Break

This is a little scene I captured at Eugene's Saturday Market recently. This guy was enjoying his coffee and his slice of sunlight on this brisk morning. And below is the promised compiled list of loose painters. You guys sent me a ton and I narrowed it down to just those who spoke to me personally, at this moment. I got A LOT of inspiration from these folks already, will surely get more, and I thoroughly appreciate the recommendations. I am happy to say I believe my funk/block/whatever is done with. For now. I am excited about painting again. Honestly excited, and that is a good feeling!
