Meeting at the Square

Normally my process for painting a still life is from the inside out (island to ocean) - first I paint the object, then everything around it. But with clear glass, I pretend (for the most part) like it's not there. I paint the background first, and then I paint all the little details that make it look like glass. This works particularly well for plates.

Thank you, thank you, thank you . I am painting a series of glass objects and I couldn't figure out why one looked so off. No matter what I did it looked wrong. I put in the background - the same colour as the empty part of the glass bottle and it looked so much better. I am very grateful, you just saved me my sanity
