My friend Raymond Logan recently said to me, "The landscape (and photography) serves you, you do not serve the landscape." I've been told this before, but it finally sunk in this time (thanks, Raymond!), and I changed the scene from what I saw in the photo. Actually it was a pretty boring photo, so I am positively thrilled with how it turned out!
We are home from Texas and I am rarin' to paint tomorrow. Can't wait to experiment with more photos!

Carol! The light in this one is palpable! The way it hits the garage is perfect, it warms the car...love the few bits of pink flowers.

Love this one! Wonderful composition and great depth. I like all the layers, the flowers, the car and the garage. I am also trying to think more about design since attending one of Patti Mollica's workshops. Things should inspire us and then we design around them.

Nice work. Your friend is right, as artists we are not be de dictated to by the photo, we can make all the changes we want. Your picture has lots of sparkle that I am sure was not there in the original photo.

Love seeing the reference photo and confirms that you took something ho hum and made it gorgeous! Wow- love all the pops of color and how you made it come alive! Way to go Girl:)
That's the beauty of painting or drawing from a photo...the opportunity to make the scene better than real life! If you don't like something, just change it or leave it out completely.
I love the quote from Raymond...so true...I have to constantly remind myself that I'm not a slave to the photo.
