I have to admit I was a bit discouraged after my first round of silly faces, so I took some time off. Recently I revisited my files and did a couple that I am really proud of. I decided to sit on them for a while, but several weeks later I am still happy with them so I am posting them, and for sale too. If they don't sell I will be happy to keep them for my own collection. I figure it's a win-win situation.

  1. Wow, just yesterday, I was thinking about your silly face paintings. It was my hope that you would soon paint more. Carol, they are stupendous & skillful.

I am looking forward to seeing the rest, Carol!

  3. It's great! How do you hang your 6x6's? Do you hang groups on the same wall or just keep them shelved on the studio wall? That would be pretty funny to have a bunch of these faces hanging together!

  4. If you were always pleased with what you did, how would you ever grow?

Take more chances. You're not running a popularity contest here.

  6. Oh, I am so glad to see more Silly Faces; I was just thinking a day or so ago how I hoped you would do more, and then suddenly, here one is!

I think they are wonderful and unique, and I can't imagine them not selling. If I could afford to buy artwork, I'd certainly bid on them :).

  8. Your brushwork really creates the feeling that this is a fleeting moment and you had to work quickly to catch it on your canvas. Great job with the eyes too, the value contrast and edges make them pop. I'm looking forward to seeing more!

  9. These will make a great book. You definitely have to do enough for a book, so we can all enjoy ALL of them at once someday!

  11. Carol,

I like your silly faces... at least many of them. We all have our opinions about what constitutes art, and I'm not surprised at the mixed reaction they receive.

But silliness, surprise and a modicum of discomfort work for me. Furthermore, I enjoy your 'silly' titles for your still lifes as well. I think of them... all of your posted work, as all of a piece.

But maybe you could add some noir--darkness--to your repertoire? Now that would be exciting!

  12. I would love to see a museum exhibition of your silly faces - how much fun that would be!! There would be many smiles among the visitors. Beautifully done, as always.

  13. I am glad you are back to posting your funny faces. I really like them. I think funny faces are hard to do because the usually structure of the face and position of the features are so different. Great job. Keep them coming.
