I've been wanting to paint this scene for a while. I took the photo this last Easter at a thing in the park. The background was busy and I wasn't sure how I was going to handle it. So I finally just started it, and when it got to this point I thought, "I like it like this, can I leave it?" And then I remembered - there are no rules! Happy day. : )

I love everything about this painting
I love this Carol-- so simply stated. And I really love the feeling you were able to convey. Wonderful!
So happy that your intuition won out, Carol. Like a breath of fresh air, everything about this piece is carefree and masterful.
One of my favorites!!
love it, love it, love it!!!!
Superb!
Beautiful! Just BEAUTIFUL!
It is so beautiful and feminine. I love how you handled the background because those little girls just pop off the page. The colors in this painting are just breathtaking!
It's PERFECT.
Very sweet !
You know, I just got this in my email and it's exactly what I needed to hear as I was working on a painting last nite and was starting to get all bent out of shape that "it didn't look like it was suppose to".
It's so funny, as artists, I think we have this preconceived idea of what a piece "should" look like even before we start it. The only real criteria is, "does it work?". And in your case here it does and it did in mine too.
Thanks for giving a little insight into the process, Carol.
What a poetic painting, perfectly executed. I always admire your still lifes but this shows that you can master people scenes too. Thanks for sharing.
It's so fresh and lovely. Instinct is a wonderful thing, so glad you have the courage to follow yours!
You reminded me the other day of the feeling that cars were passing us at the speed of light :)
Melts my heart....my all time favorite. Your expertise with painting the figure is stunning.
Beautiful! This is perfect!
It's fabulous Carol. I LOVE the older girls hand, how her fingers are spread in that way that small kids do. You've just done some truly amazing work.
I love this, and I love the No Rules comment! I have to remember that more often while painting.
This is so great!!! Fresh!
This is really fresh and young feeling, just like the subjects. Congratulations!!
It is my all time favorite of yours!
There is such a wonderful moment here that is so well executed by your artistic talent. The subject matter is so sweet, but it is your painting technique that suits this kind gesture so perfectly. I love that it is not "finished" off, it allows the viewer to fill in the blanks, to read the story with there own conclusion.
This is so good and I love the way you edited and handled the background, so simple yet the figures look great against it. Beautiful!
Really, really like this painting! You really captured the movement of these children!! Awesome! : )
OK...gotta admit it...masterful!!!!
This is one of my favorites :)
No Rules rocks! I love this - the figures are perfect and if you'd included all the noisy background you would have lost their strength!
Zooming in on this piece and seeing how your brushwork makes up these two little ones is exciting - the placement and amount of your marks are just right.
This painting sings with ability, emotion and movement. I am loving these moments in life, captured so beautifully forever. Carol, really great!
Just precious Carol.
You really captured the hip and shoulder angles of the taller girl... nice.
Wow, Carol, stunning painting, beautiful. Perfect. Love it! Your skill with paint and with color are incredible.
Just lovely !!!
well said. You nailed it. Beautiful, carefree feeling with these two.
