Persimmon Soiree
sold
I was so excited about posting my new workshop yesterday, I got the link for the auction wrong. But I've corrected it, in case you were interested in bidding.
For this painting I returned to a florescent light, which I often forget to use. It is a cooler, softer light (one of those spiral jobbies) and these persimmons look so GOOD under it.

Spare Tire

I painted this a while ago, from the front. I just love these old cars. They've got such personality, don't they?!

Casual Corner
sold (8x8in.)
I've been under the weather this week. I don't know if it's that or just my bad luck, but I've been doing a lot of wipers lately. This one though ... I feel positively redeemed. I like it a lot. It's always such a good feeling when a painting works out, especially in the middle of a dry spell.
I will be announcing a new workshop next week, Thursday, 11/21/13, at 7pm PST (that's west coast time). The workshop will be in March, '14, here in Oregon.
Foggy Easton
sold (8x8in)
And now for something different. When I was growing up my last name was Leinweber. I know. We lived in the Texas hill country on 7 acres, and had a dirt driveway with large puddles when it rained. We had one particularly large puddle that we called Lake Leinweber, and when it was full my sister and I used to strip down and "swim" in the lake, getting completely muddy in the process. I'm sure my parents have pictures somewhere. This painting has absolutely nothing to do with any of that except that it starts with a large puddle ... but that's enough, right?

Menacing
sold
Thanks you guys for the fog painter recommendations! My favorite by far, I have to say, is one I've seen before - Jeremy Mann. I've also been very much enjoying the cityscapes (and figures) of Terry Miura. Now that's loose!

Midnight Rendezvous
sold
I have a confession to make. This was not painted by the moonlight, even though it looks like it. And I didn't even realize the effect until I saw it again in my studio this morning (I painted it yesterday). But hey, it's pretty cool, huh? Cool being the reason it looks like night-time...
On a different but slightly related note, it was really foggy today here in Eugene, OR. At around dinner-time I realized I didn't have the right kind of cheese for the quiche I was making, so I drove to the nearest store (in the fading light) to get some. On the way I noticed the very cool way the streetlights were emphasized in the fog. If I hadn't had 2 kids waiting on me for dinner, I would have gotten my camera and wandered a bit for some photos. Can anyone recommend any evening fog painters/ings?

Golden Grapes
sold
Life has a way of disrupting plans. I've been dealing with some life issues this week - nothing serious, but needing attention. Now back to painting. I hadn't painted grapes in a while - fun!

Ends Chopped Off
sold
I thought I had chopped up an orange every which way it could be chopped, but this one is new for me. Seems like something a picky child would ask for - "mom, chop off the ends for me, please?" Thank goodness my picky child doesn't even like oranges. Ha.

Pumpkin Light Repeated
sold
This is my second attempt at the smooth pumpkin, this time with glass and fabric both added for an extra challenging composition. My favorite part is the pumpkin stem.

Pumpkin on Blue
sold
I hadn't painted any cloth folds in a while, so I thought I'd take my newly acquired pumpkin and combine it with something difficult and blue. Interestingly, the most challenging part ended up being the totally smooth pumpkin. For me the ones with grooves down the side seem easier. Crazy.

Can't Put it Down
sold
This is another gal from San Francisco, this one on her lunch break, sneaking in a good book. She keeps looking at her watch, dreading giving up her book because it's at a pivotal moment and she simply has to find out if Claire forgives Jonathon!

Girls Day Out
sold
These ladies were shopping in San Fran's Ferry Building when I was there last - just three friends, hittin' their favorite stores, finding the good sales, snaggin' a bite to eat, havin' fun. I'm in love with the light.

Too Cool For School
sold
I spotted these two in San Francisco on a bench near the water. The seemed like the epitome of San Fran Cool! Especially their shoes. She was wearing these weird high tops with pink laces and he was wearing leather dress shoes (with his t-shirt and jeans) and no socks. This is why I'm not allowed to live there - I'm not cool enough for that.
On a more painterly note, I had so much fun suggesting the background. In the photo it was very busy, and my goal was to subdue it so it didn't take attention away from the people, My solution was to change the values (only in the background) so there were only subtle shifts. I'm quite pleased with the result!

You're a Delicate Flower
sold
I don't know what kind of flower this is, but I love the shape of the petals, especially the ones on top that look like hearts from this angle. It was also really fun trying to suggest the sticky-outy parts in the middle.
My 2014 San Antonio workshop is full, but (fyi) if a spot opens up at any time, everyone on the wait list is notified at the same time, so ... get on it!
