Peninsula of Rocks

sold. (6x12in. - click image to view larger)

I am trying hard to figure out an approach to painting landscapes. Or, better put, approaches. My intention at this point is just to try lots of things and lots of paintings. I am trying many scenes more than once, and posting only my favorites. Ideally I would be doing all these from life, but it's rather dreary here in Oregon at the moment. And cold. So I'll stick with photos for now. This one is from my week in the Sierra Nevadas.

Many thanks for the encouragement regarding home schooling! Today was our second day and it is going very well. : )

I love this landscape Carol. It looks like the lake on top of Carson Pass? Are you going to post all of your approaches? I would find it enlightening to see them. I struggle with this continually.

I love your brushwork in this painting, especially the trees and water- you've really caught the way the ripples distort the reflections slightly.

I was home-educated from age 12, and I loved it. I feel like I got a much better educational experience than my friends who went to school- much more practical and well-rounded. And I think mum and I have a closer relationship as a result. There's more trust and respect on both sides. So I wish you luck, I'm sure it will work out well for you!

Oh wow! This is really great...my favorite of your landscapes so far! My daughter home schools in Portland and she is doing a beautiful job providing creative and engaging activities that teach the basics as well as encouraging imagination and thinking outside of the box.

I love the size and dimensions of this little painting. The elongated dimensions capture the interest first (which I love), and then the color and composition.

Good for you for being open to home-schooling. There are so many benefits to take advantage of (relational, creative, academic, social) and you are building a solid, healthy dynamic with your little person even on your most uninspired, "cardboard" days. Took this route with both boys (now 20-somethings) and they are bright, original, amazing men; no regrets for us or them. :)
