I have felt limited by the sizes available for gessobord, so I bought some archival masonite, gessoed it myself, and had my husband cut some interesting sizes on the tablesaw. Specifically I wanted small, wide panels. This one is 6x12 inches. I like the surface of the gessobord better, but this worked fine. I took this picture near a pond in Greenville, NY. My husband assures me these are geese. I thought maybe just the middle one was a goose, and I was going to call it "Duck Duck Goose," or maybe "Duck Goose Duck." Too bad, huh?!

Carol, you can cut the gessoboard on a table saw with no problems. I do it all the time!

Love the colors in the white down. Great edges too. Kind of thinking the two on the outside are ducks. They are a very inclusive community.

Where do you find the archival masonite? None of the big boxe outlets (Lowes, Home Depot) seem to carry anything like that--unless I'm not clear about what I'm looking for.
Is it a special order item?

I sense some of your self in the fun titles and wanted to let you know I adore Duck, Goose, Duck!
It could be the brand of gesso you are using that is not the same as they use on gessobord. I have noticed that. Maybe you could ask them what they use.
Hi Carol, what I do is I add extra marble dust to the store-bought gesso (and a little bit of water to thin if necessary). I apply this to masonite to make a toothy surface for oil and like it a lot.
Did you know there is a wine named "Duck Duck Goose" and it is quite good. I like these guys though, each of them have different personalities, you can just tell.
Carol, I use Ampersand Gessobord and cut it on the tablesaw just fine. I buy standard sizes, too, but there's nothing like taking a huge 24x36 panel and cutting it down into some interesting proportions to get some exciting art happening!! Love the format of the geese!! Kim
I recommend playing the "artistic license" card! I love it, they look wonderful.
I also buy the large sheets of gessobord but I use a heavy metal ruler and a stanley knife to cut the board so you don't need 'heavy equipment' (lots of light cuts). I'm glad you've recovered from your ER scare - and love what you've been painting!

Hi Carol, just came across your work and really love it.
Btw I raise ducks and geese as pets. The outer two could easily pass for pekin ducks. The centre one is almost certainly an embden goose. So "Duck duck goose" would work perfectly.
