Up the Walk
BUY NOW $75
I was really captivated by the walk up to this relatively plain and unkempt house. I am finding painting this kind of stuff not quite the same as still life (duh), and so I am being challenged, which is probably exactly what I am needing right now. So I am researching other artists who paint houses and architecture. One of my favorites is Colin Page. If anyone has any other suggestions of good, loose painters (that sounds funny - next I'll be hearing from Colin's wife...) I would love to hear them. Thanks!

Carol, love this new direction! Your work is just beautiful, can hardly wait to see more. One artist that paints in a similar style is Tim Horn. I have taken his classes, and just love his work! You might enjoy it, if you haven't seen it already.
Jennifer McChristian would be one of my favourites in this genre.
Nice painting! Here's a few painters I enjoy who render architecture loosely.
Timothy Horn http://www.horndesign.com/
William Wray (name he goes by for his fine art paintings) http://williamwray.blogspot.com/.
(aka Bill Wray the cartoonist)
Michael Chamberlain http://chamberlainpaintings.com/
You probably already know these names, but here goes - David Lloyd, Nancy Colella, Nancy Clearwater Herman, Stephen Magsig and Timothy Horn. Just a few, of course. Hopes this helps with your exploration.
I like your last two house paintings! You are so good at taking something ordinary and making it extraordinary!
John Guernsey. Probably one of the best that hardly no one knows about.

It has already been stated but Tim Horn is a great plein aire painter. Randall Sexton is another. Love your work and the direction you are going.
Beautiful! Lovely blog! I have just discovered you, and I'm a new follower!
Best,
Anne ♥
Stephen Magsig although I think you're doing really well now.
Randall Sexton. I find the urban scene and landscape paintings to be very inspiring! :)

Vous avez joué à merveille avec les lumières et les formes, tout en douceur... J'aime, oui j'aime beaucoup.
Gros bisous
I'm sure you know Jennifer McChristian's painting -- her architectural work is gorgeous. And Nancy Collela -- a local painter here south of Boston -- has been doing a beach house series that's beautiful --

I so much appreciate your willingness to share the challenges you're experiencing on your blog -- THAT is courage! Keep going!
Love these landscapes, Carol! Especially the way you paint your greens. Like Linda Popple, I would have suggested Stephen Magsig. And don't forget a visit to the master Jullian Merrow-Smith.
Looking forward to seeing more of these delightful exterior paintings.
Like your change of pace. How about Nancy Collela

Hey Carol,
Thanks for mentioning me. I think you know that I love your still lifes, so I am honored to be one of your favorite landscape painters. I do have one suggestion for a great, loose painter. Randall Sexton is a really great painter. Incredible brushwork.
And my wife found your post very funny.
Happy painting. I'm glad your break was a short one.
like this walkabout series. I like Connie Hayes-I believe she's at the same gallery as Colin.
Very beautiful!
I recently stumbled upon Hsin-Yao Tseng's website... I find his work amazing

I see that several of my suggestions have already been made. So pick the repeats; I know you can't go wrong.

Geez, you have knowledgable followers! I can't recommend any other painters in this "ilk" because I don't know them. However, I love the direction you are taking also and am enjoying the "intimate" views you create. I also love the near repetition of shapes, and as always your delightful whimsicle angles and great compositions!
Hi Carol, you might like this artist:

Susan Abbott!
Some of David Dewey's landscapes are also in the loose category.
Can't wait to check out the others' suggestions!
You're entitled to be bored with still lifes! How many have you produced these last few years? 2000?
I love the new subjects you're painting and am leaning towards something similar. I'm also a fan of Colin Page-you should come to the workshop he's giving in August on North Haven island off the coast of Maine!
Michael Chamberlain does some nice painting of buildings http://chamberlainpaintings.blogspot.ca/
I like Mark Lague:

And this guy:

Great painting. You make everything interesting. I guess that's what great painters do. Have you seen Jil Soukup's work?

Love this series Carol, I can see your unique eye for design in the compositions. I agree with the others Jennifer McChristian is one of my favorites. There is Carolyn Hesse-Low, Bryan Mark Taylor, Ken Auster, Terry Miura and Randall Sexton too.
I think you might like Susie y. Anderson in Maui. I'm thrilled to see what you're finding on your walks Carol. Thanks for taking us along!
Funny :D
yeah...he's loose. JUST KIDDING :D
Love the beautiful angles in this along with the beautiful brushwork.
Mike Chamberlain & Dan Corey http://danielcorey.blogspot.com/ are two artists that I follow. Both paint unconventional views of architecture which I like.
Once again you push your comfort zone! Love your landscapes(bought one). And the fact that you paint what could be ignored-/you see it and make it worth noticing. Your blog is wonderful! Your openness helps us all! Thant you. Susan
I admire the work of New Orleans artist Phil Sandusky. Found this neat-o website that allows you to zoom in on the paintings and move around to see the brushstrokes up close by clicking on the "zoomify" button. http://www.knowla.org/repository.php?rec=158
Can't wait to check out some of the other artists mentioned above.
I don't think anyone mentioned Karen Bruson, and of course, Karin Jurick. Love your work and blog. I've never commented before, but I'm a regular follower.
Carol,
I think you might like Anne Kullaf.

Can't believe it but my favorite two artist have not been mentioned--Carolyn Anderson for painting people and Jeremy Mann for everything else!
