Shades of Green

I've decided to take a break from painting. I have to admit I've seen painting as a job for a while. Rather than being excited about getting into my studio I've been apprehensive, and that's not good. I have a whole list of other things I've been wanting to do, and I've given myself permission to do them until I get bored - until I can't WAIT to paint again. I don't know how long it will take, but I will keep you posted. I have one more painting tucked away to post and then I'm out.

Oh, Carol, how I will miss blogging on each day. But to be honest, it doesn't surprise me. I imagine you need re-nourishing. You have done such a great job and with extraordinary generosity. Speaking just for me, I have learnt heaps over the past year or so since I have been following you. Thank you and good luck with your break.

Well you have earned a much deserved break. I will be curious to see how long it does take you to want to paint again, but I bet you will come back with passion. The colors in this painting are so interesting and fun.

Carol, everyone deserves a vacation! You have worked long and hard to get to where you are with your work. Take your time with our blessings! Take a walk in the Spring air! Take a trip to the beach with your boys! Make some jewelry! HAVE FUN.

Carol, Wow, what a realization.... If you want to make jewelry, I've found more supplies I can send to you. Love the green polka-dot earrings.
I have really been enjoying my time on DPW. Hope you want to paint again soon. -Sandy

Giving ourselves permission to rest is such a hard thing to do. But we do need it (even from the things we love.) May this "holiday" be a fruitful time of re-creation and rediscovered joy for you! Cheering you on, as always! XOXO

I cannot imagine not receiving your painting each day as I so look forward to it..... but it is most important to do what you love and know what you need to nourish yourself. Good luck with whatever comes next.

congrats carol!! the best thing that happened to me was not getting into the daily paintworks group a few years ago~ they said i didn't have a distinctive enough style and i didn't paint every singe day...a blessing actually because it gave me more time for golf, tennis, dogwalks, yardstuff, hubby time and, most importantly, grandkid time!! so go forth and BE!! - enjoy your life, your new surroundings, have fun with your boys...i'm certainly rooting for you!!! good on ya! susie

I'm taking a break from writing right now, too. I didn't PLAN to but it just kind of happened. I think all creative spirits need a time to lie fallow and percolate whatever will come next. You've also had a really stressful year --it seems like at some point you might need to be still and process through all of that.

Glad you are giving yourself permission to take a break, or whatever. It isn't any good when the fun goes out of it, the muse takes a vacation, or moves to some far off land. Hope you'll keep us in the loop of the interesting and creative things you'll be doing.

You'll be fine, Carol, and you will continue to move forward in artistic endeavors - you couldn't do otherwise if you tried... Creativity is so in your blood! God bless you. I hope you will share some of your new adventures in art with us along the way. Don't ever forget how very many people you've blessed.

Enjoy the time away and I look forward to seeing what happens!

Thank you very much for sharing your beautiful paintings! I'll miss them but wish you all the best whatever you want to do. Creativity under pressure is hell (I quit graphicdesign some years ago), now I love to draw for my own amusement.

Those of us who are fellow painters are SO with you, Carol! Every once in awhile we just hit a wall and have to stop and do some internal caretaking. I hit one at the beginning of February. I closed down my eBay and Etsy shops and Facebook. Two months later, I've just started to pick up my watercolor brushes again. I had no idea when I'd be ready to start again, and I knew I should not set any deadlines for myself. It had to come back naturally, if at all. The urge to paint is coming back slowly, and I'm not pushing it. You just take your own sweet time. You're doing the right thing. By the way, I think the "daily painting" concept is brutal, and I'm not so sure it's a good thing, at all.

Thanks so much for all you have shared; you are a remarkable young woman and an inspiration to anyone who thinks they have a passion to create.
My husband and I have been functional potters for the past 35 years I cannot count just how many mugs I have made in that time. Many times I have taken a break, wondered if there was more, in the end concluded that that there was... better mugs! You dear girl have developed skills way beyond your young years and will always have a purpose. Working for yourself is the only way to go. Rest up, reflect, play and plan!

Hi Carol,
I have enjoyed receiving your beautiful paintings in my
in box each day. While you are recharging--can I offer a suggestion? Have a small sketch book and some Pitt brush pens on standby. You now live in one of the most beautiful states,Oregon. I think by exploring the landscape you will find a renewed sense to begin again.
I have been reading of your re-location to Oregon.
Your indomitable spirit is truly inspiring.I look forward to your new paintings when you once again pick up the brush.
