First Date - SOLD

I spotted these pretty, yellow carnations at the grocery store and couldn't pass them up. I tried and tried to make it work with just one ... like a portrait. But there was so little contrast and it just wasn't happening, so I pulled in some supporting actors. I'm really happy with it.

Perfect supporting actors! It's great to hear your thought process on how you build your compositions.

Contrast, light and composition are not only actors but main characters.

Tough subject matter painted beautifully! Fabulous yellow carnations against the creamy white is outstanding. Love the way you paint flowers- the best!

I just love the way you rendered the carnations in just a few bold strokes...so lovely...

PS - Please tell David he's done a fantastic job with DPW. The user interface/design is really slick.

That touch of pink on the cups rim is literally a stroke of genius. I love how you handle whites!

Love all that neutrality and then the bright yellow makes me smile!

This is a breathtaking painting--I love everything about it. Have a good workshop in Atlanta--wish I could be there.

You are a wonder artist! I love this painting!

I like how you didn't go so detailed with the flowers. You can totally tell it's a flower but it isn't as exact as a lot of artists make it..

Really love this painting!

I'm in a workshop today and we are all painting flowers...sighing, whining...someone mentioned that she had just discovered your blog and thought you were amazing...I come home and see your post and you make painting flowers look effortless...but it's not.
