I spotted these pretty, yellow carnations at the grocery store and couldn't pass them up. I tried and tried to make it work with just one ... like a portrait. But there was so little contrast and it just wasn't happening, so I pulled in some supporting actors. I'm really happy with it.

Perfect supporting actors! It's great to hear your thought process on how you build your compositions.
Contrast, light and composition are not only actors but main characters.
Simply love this painting! Everything about it makes me smile, from the colors, to the shapes, and the feel.
I always enjoy seeing what lovely painting you've produced for the day, Carol. I especially like the simplicity and restful feeling of this one.
Tough subject matter painted beautifully! Fabulous yellow carnations against the creamy white is outstanding. Love the way you paint flowers- the best!
I won't say it real. Most of the artist paint like photo. But this painting is looking like painting.Very beautiful concept.

Hi Carol!
I just love the way you rendered the carnations in just a few bold strokes...so lovely...

PS - Please tell David he's done a fantastic job with DPW. The user interface/design is really slick.
Beautiful composition. I like the yellow and its light.
That touch of pink on the cups rim is literally a stroke of genius. I love how you handle whites!
Love all that neutrality and then the bright yellow makes me smile!
Love, love, LOVE this one! Okay, so I know that I say that about a lot of your paintings but truly, this one is great....just like you! ;-)
This is a breathtaking painting--I love everything about it. Have a good workshop in Atlanta--wish I could be there.
You are a wonder artist! I love this painting!
I like how you didn't go so detailed with the flowers. You can totally tell it's a flower but it isn't as exact as a lot of artists make it..
Really love this painting!
Beautiful one in concept and execution.
I'm in a workshop today and we are all painting flowers...sighing, whining...someone mentioned that she had just discovered your blog and thought you were amazing...I come home and see your post and you make painting flowers look effortless...but it's not.
I'd be happy with it too! I love this one.
