I took a trip home to see my folks recently and found this cool old truck in a field down the road from the house. I got there in the morning and took advantage of the intense light. I am finding what I am most inspired by when I go outside is the light - and the difference between what's in the shadow compared to what's in the light. I think I need to get out early on a regular basis.

Love the painting of the truck.
I'm finding the same thing about plein air painting. When I paint en plein air [in oils], what I'm painting more than anything is the light. And nothing quite compares to early morning light. In addition, in these hot summer days, it's about the only time of day I feel inspired to get out there.
My guess is most of your still life set ups are lit with a lamp cast like an early morning sun. Yes?
This is great! Old trucks are such fun to paint. I have become hooked on them since seeing yours and other peoples' paintings. Now I see them everywhere!
Early morning and late afternoon or even twilight is fantastic light to paint. I did a series of daybreak paintings here at the lake with the bass fishing boats against the rising sun--so dramatic!
I am so glad to hear Jacob is settling in to school so well. I love your breakfast series, so inspiring. Mary
Thanks again Carol. I recieved your paintings "Fixer Upper" & "Mini Tractor" yesterday. My husband and I think they are absolutely wonderful and will enjoy them for all time. You never cease to captivate me with your new paintings. Great job with this old truck!
GORGEOUS! Keep up the amazing painting. Your use of color and texture are very exciting and fresh. You have inspired me to work on being loose but purposefully. That is easier said than done. :)
LOVE this! Can't say it enough.
