"Mugion" - nfs

Get the title, an onion in a mug? ha .... ha .... Well, I'm finding that onions are tough. And what makes them tough, in my opinion, are the subtle shifts in color and value. I kind of cheated here by using just one in my setup, and putting it in a cup, effectively cutting off half. Pretty sneaky, huh?

Very cute title:) Great painting! I've never painted an onion maybe I'll have to try.

Simply Mugion! perfect title. Curious that your not using any lateral onion lines though.

I am trying to do an onion series, this could not have come at a better time. It continues to teach me to remember the "one stroke, one color" lesson from your Westford workshop.
Love the way you captured the essence of onionness with this painting and your previous "Onion Corner"- beautiful rich color and strong discriptive strokes.

Hahahahahaha, yeah I like the title.
Yes, onions are a challenge. For me it's like they are both opaque and transparent all at the same time. I can see that in yours (more on the last post than this one.) Love the rich earthy colors on yours.

I found Renee's comment about your workshop lesson, "one stroke, one color" very intriguing. Would it be possible to elaborate a little for those of us not fortunate enough to travel to your workshops? I'll understand if it takes too much time and space here.
