My new friend and remarkable artist, Adele Ernshaw, gave me this little salt shaker when I was in Sedona recently, and I've been dying to paint it ever since. Isn't it cute!?

Great painting, the reflection gives an abstract quality - love Adele Ernshaw's site/paintings too - a good way to get turned on to other people's work you wouldn't necessarily come across on your own. . . love her brushwork in the landscapes and the way she paints light - lovely -

Hi Carol,
I met you in Sedona when you were there Nov. 09. I took the one day work shop - painting a day. I feel like I should sign up for the next one before it fills. I want to tell you what an inspiration you have been for me. Showing me the way and being an example as well. I have been receiveing your Dailys and am impressed. I'm in the process of getting myself together. Your "Parallel Universe" is a beautiful piece!

Love all the muted colors - but is it a faux pas to only have 2 objects instead of an odd number? Or does the reflection of the salt shaker become the third object?

Shelley, the shaker is actually filled with salt. I suppose it's hard to tell with the way the light is hitting it.
Mary, I think the odd number rule is just a guideline - worth breaking if you can make it work. I think, in general, it is more difficult to compose with even numbers, but definitely do-able. My 2 cents anyway. : ) Happy painting!

That's interesting; I,too thought the little battle-star shaker was empty. I thought the sepia line at the hip indicated transparency. The shaker's reflection does look full o'salt.
Just talking painting here; maybe the table is a third object. Maybe the difference in values on the shaker makes 2 STACKED objects. Maybe the dynamic negative spaces are the third object. What I wanted to say on first look was 'wow! nice!'
