"Simple Strokes" - SOLD

This painting took me 2 1/2 hours to paint. Sort of. I wiped the 2 before it, so I'm counting that time too. : ) Lately I feel like I've been getting away from the interpreting part of painting, and more towards just painting what I see. So today I took my own advice (that I give at workshops) and simplified my subject into fewer strokes, getting the color and value just right before I put down each stroke. And even though the subject is very simple and ... perhaps a bit boring ... I am really happy with the result.

That turquoise blue is beautiful, and the reflections are just perfect!!! Swanderful :)

No - definitely NOT boring - you're right, I've noticed a little change in your paintings lately - couldn't put my finger on it. But this 'simple' painting just rocks. I love the combo of the cup and the lemon!

I am sure that this is not boring. The colors are beautiful together and the strokes interesting. As always, a good job.

When you say "the interpretive part of painting," what is that? Is it your emotional response to the subject? Is it the way you plan in your mind how you will portray what you see? Is it trying to articulate to yourself what that particular color-spot looks like? None of the above?

I love this, and can tell you've done something a little different, but I don't have the vocabulary or experience to pin it down to words. I recall from your workshop that the hardest (but most beneficial) thing for me to do was make each individual stroke count on its own, value- and color-wise. You truly are accomplished at doing so. And it shows in ALL your paintings.

BTW, I'm LOVING my new CM painting!

Carol, There is nothing boring about this subject. It is beautifully observed and very fresh.

This is beautiful, I believe that if the subject is boring then you deserve twice the credit for making the mundane into one of a kind Beauty.

Do you have any suggestion or any online resources, that would help someone speed up the time to finish a painting. I think your paintings are great and Im amazed how quickly you get them done. They have a lot of depth and a lot of subject matter to accomplish your paintings in the amount of time that you do them. Your blog as well as others are a resources for other artists trying to develop their skills. Thank you
