"Golden Rose" - SOLD

This rose had a lovely glow to it and it was a struggle to capture, but if I look back at my old roses I can see I've improved. On the other hand, I am finding over and over that art is extraordinarily subjective. Recently I got an email from a regular reader who critiqued my subdued colors of late. It goes to show that when I think I am doing some of my best paintings ever, someone is going to think the opposite. And when I think I am putting out *crap* - for lack of a better word - someone is going to love it. But all I've got with me in my studio is me, so you'll have to continue to settle for my aesthetics. : )

Hi Carol,

I like this rose. Yellow is particularly difficult to capture.

Yes, everyone has a different opinion and not every opinion matches our own.

You are the one doing your paintings and the only one who knows where you are going and what you want, so your own opinion is the only one that counts for your work! Critique is only useful as a method to provide you with some outside ideas that may help you get more of what you want in your paintings.

Have fun painting!

Fair play to you Carole. Stick to your guns.

You are so right about it being subjective. Wouldn't it be awful if we all liked exactly the same thing! I suppose the best thing is to be true to yourself and your own ideas.

I really like this one - I love the light on the petals. I admire your tenacity with these roses - I think they are about the hardest flowers to get right.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.
Love the inner orange heat to this one!

Carol, This is a glorius rose. Listen to and stay true to your inner voice.

This painting sings with warmth and beauty. What music were you listening to when you were painting?

oh so true-we just have to stay true to ourselves--just got an email from my sister who upon seeing my latest painting said--"so is this the NEW impressionistic Pam?". I hope so because I am always aiming for that!! Maybe her comment means I am getting there.

This is gorgeous, full of light. Everyone has favorites. Yellow roses are tough. Not these you have been doing. Applause!!
