"Surrounded" --- SOLD
I've had this idea for a while to do paintings of fruit that convey some sort of drama. Mostly, with this blog, I have focused on HOW to paint rather than WHAT to paint. However, I am now getting to a point where I am comfortable enough with the how and am getting more into the what. What?
Sometimes I have an idea ahead of time of a funny/interesting scenario, but mostly they come to me as I position and reposition...and reposition, etc. With this one I was going for an army of pears because they were on the floor of my studio like that and I liked it. But it was missing something. An orange. So, is it a casual surrounding? Or are the pears picking on the poor orange? I suppose that's for the viewer to decide.

The pears are ganging up on the poor little orange!
Or maybe the orange is the little fat, bald boss of all these pears and they are wondering why he called this meeting.
I think the orange is someone who feels lost in a sea of fruit that he has nothing in common with.
Ve vill haf to investigate furzer, und analyze him thuroly.
Funny and nicely painted too.
I like the bald guy comment. To me the orange looks like hes got something to say to the rest.
Do you make all your own canvases?
My first thought when I saw this image was, "How nice of those pears to protect that little orange." I imagine that a juicer showed up in the room... maybe one of those vintage glass ones... and the valiant pears took their present positions.
"Orange? Nope. haven't seen him."
I love the idea of the pears protecting the orange although my first thought was more along the lines of them ganging up.
I have a question for you. I think I bought the "magic brush" you mentioned on May 24th. The bristles are alot softer than I'm used to. The brush I ordered is more like mongoose hair and I'm used to hogs hair feeling brush.
This is what I ordered: http://www.jerrysartarama.com/art-supply/catalogs/0053681000000
Is this what you have?
Hey you guys - thanks for all the ideas! It's great to hear how everyone else interprets things.
Debbie, no I don't make my own canvases. I used to, for my larger paintings, but now I order panels from Raymar. Their website: http://www.raymarart.com/ I get the smooth cotton, but they have a sample pack so you can try out all four surfaces.
Brendy, yes, that's my magic brush! The bristles are softer, but they stay in place.
I really love this painting for its interpretive nature. Beautiful!
Karen
I love yours colours and your composition
