Cozy Cows

Here are a few cows I photographed forever ago in Germany. The light was perfect! What I need to find is someone with cows here in Oregon. I would love to get out in a field with animals (any kind really) and take pictures all day. I've wanted to do this for a while.

Many thanks to those of you emailing me about workshops!! I appreciate the help.

  1. What a lovely painting. I love the freshness of the greens (you can smell the grass!) and the contre-jour effect behind the cows. They look so cute all sticking together gathering for a picture! Great work, thanks for sharing.

  5. Oh yea! LOVE the light! It looks like one of those perfect, mild European mornings, about 75 degrees, sunny, clear and crisp.
Also, daring composition and great expressions!

  6. Love you cozy cows. Your brushstrokes on this one are amazing. Surely there are some cows somewhere in Oregon.

  7. Love the little cows - the lighting is wonderful, as is your composition and of course, brush strokes. As for animals in Oregon, there are many ranches. Driving north from Eugene, along the I5 corridor of the Willamette valley you will see sheep ranches. Central, Eastern and South/eastern Oregon have many cattle ranches. There are ranches closer to you ( Take West 11th/Hwy. 128 to Elmira,(same as going to the coast) turn right onto Territorial Rd. head north towards Junction City a few miles).

  8. One of your best! I'm not even into cows and I loved this one on sight. I'm sure it'll get bid through the skies, there are a lot of cow painting collectors who will find it irresistible.

They have so much character! I can see why you want to do more!

  10. Love me some cows! Could paint them everyday- they have such personality and you captured it right here...gorgeous brushwork and shaping. Love the value shifts. If they don't have cows in Oregon, I feel sure that we can send you some from Georgia:)

  11. I love the subtle tones of blue in the cows faces. It really brings the whole thing to life. Your paintings are amazing and each brushstroke seems to be placed decisively and perfectly everytime.

  12. I can smell the cow pies :D

I'm sure you'll find some cows near where you live, soon. So happy you're liking the change in location, unexpected and drastic though it was.

    Beautiful light in this.
