A Helping Hand

I've been wanting to paint this scene for a while. I took the photo this last Easter at a thing in the park. The background was busy and I wasn't sure how I was going to handle it. So I finally just started it, and when it got to this point I thought, "I like it like this, can I leave it?" And then I remembered - there are no rules! Happy day. : )

  7. It is so beautiful and feminine. I love how you handled the background because those little girls just pop off the page. The colors in this painting are just breathtaking!

  8. You know, I just got this in my email and it's exactly what I needed to hear as I was working on a painting last nite and was starting to get all bent out of shape that "it didn't look like it was suppose to".

It's so funny, as artists, I think we have this preconceived idea of what a piece "should" look like even before we start it. The only real criteria is, "does it work?". And in your case here it does and it did in mine too.

Thanks for giving a little insight into the process, Carol.

You reminded me the other day of the feeling that cars were passing us at the speed of light :)

  13. It's fabulous Carol. I LOVE the older girls hand, how her fingers are spread in that way that small kids do. You've just done some truly amazing work.

  17. There is such a wonderful moment here that is so well executed by your artistic talent. The subject matter is so sweet, but it is your painting technique that suits this kind gesture so perfectly. I love that it is not "finished" off, it allows the viewer to fill in the blanks, to read the story with there own conclusion.

  22. No Rules rocks! I love this - the figures are perfect and if you'd included all the noisy background you would have lost their strength!
