I've been a bit blocked this week, but I'm very excited about this one. I find the most important thing about a block is to just keep painting, and work through it. It's very easy to get discouraged and want to quit, but eventually, if you keep painting, you'll come out the other side.
I love the different colored bottles together. Really nice! And the orange and yellow just look great with those shades of blue and green!
ReplyDeletePainting orange slices has gotten me unblocked lately! Yes, it's so true, you have to just keep painting no matter what! Love the colors here!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about my writing.
ReplyDeleteI'll be on a roll and then suddenly I hit a cliff and roll right over it.
When I land in the ravine, at the bottom, I'm too disoriented to get back to my writing - not good.
But, your Blog has motivated me - I am trying to focus, even if it's just in 10-15 minute chunks. It's working!
Great colour and balance of "the crew" in this piece.

Amazed at the sense of transparency you have managed with such simple, broad brushstrokes. Genius.
ReplyDeleteStay with it Carol! All blocks pass! Sometimes, they are ways of telling you what to paint next!
ReplyDeleteYou don't seem blocked any more! Love the glass bottles. As always your glass is so translucent.
ReplyDeleteThis hit home today for me, Carol. It's so fascinating to me that I can paint something I'm very proud of one day, and completely hit a wall the next. But I do think it's the keeping on that's important--thank you for the encouragement today. :)
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are successes in my book, but this come back painting is killer too. Nice work, this one really caught my eye.
ReplyDeleteLove the contrast of the orange slice against those two bottles! Your ability to handle glass and render its transparency and shine so well always amazes me.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about working through a block, even when you don't want to. I've found those blocks sometimes lead to creative or technical leaps later.
You get discouraged about painting? You pulled yourself out of it rather nicely. This one's a beauty.
ReplyDeleteThe glass looks great, the blues and orange make a striking painting.
ReplyDeleteHi Carol: I really like this painting. This is just an idea but it might be interesting to try a similar painting using a rosebud instead of a black eyed susan. The shape and color of the bud would close nicely with the shape and color orange slice. - Cheers, FC
ReplyDeleteWonderful, amazing, I'm never tired of coming back and looking at it.
ReplyDeleteLove how you make reflections so realistic with straight-forward strokes.
