Fun Flower

This was just a fun little flower that I did in acrylic recently. I like it but it doesn't feel as serious as my other work. Wait, is any of my work "serious"? Haha! Anyway, I'm starting the bid for this at $1. : )

Invisible Zinnia

Please note this is on an odd sized panel (purchased in Germany): 13x18cm.

The photo reference for this zinnia wasn't terribly interesting. But something about it compelled me so I decided to really push the colors in the background (making up a lot of them). It was an experiment, and one that I thought might completely bomb. But I'm loving the result.

I took the picture for this painting at the zoo. I'm sure people thought I was crazy, taking close-up photos of the landscaping rather than the lions and bears. Once I began painting it, for some strange reason I reverted to my old method of dark to light. It seemed much to dark in the end, so I did it over, with this result. I am much happier.
