Nestled Between

Click Here to Bid - 6x6in. - oil on panel

This is another wild Balsamroot that grows in my area (Missoula). I especially like the leaves on this plant, which provide a lovely backdrop. For every painting I have to edit the leaves a bit because they are never arranged perfectly. I usually try some things on my ipad first - painting over the reference - before I start painting IRL. It's a pretty handy tool.

Spring

Another spring themed collage. I hand make all the paper with acrylic paint and (usually) a gelli plate. The little drawings I do with ink and a brush, or pens. The text is random that I print out with cool fonts I find. Recently I discovered that google has a whole bunch of extra fonts that you can search through and add for your use in google docs!

Here's another little collage while I wait to remember how to paint. My husband and I take a long walk most days, and I have particularly enjoyed watching spring happen this year. I am inspired by all the new buds and leaves. Here's an abstracted version.

Looking for Light

This is a simple little scene from a trip to San Francisco a couple of years ago. I was inside the Friends school in the Mission District, teaching a workshop to adults while the kids were away on Spring Break.

Many big thanks to all of you who wrote to me about the portrait of my son! It was very encouraging, as was the process itself, so I have more in the works. : )

Light in the Hallway

sold

This scene is from a photo I took at the Friends school in San Francisco when I was teaching there recently. This plant was down the hall from our room, on the way to the bathroom. I was positively enchanted by the light. And I wasn't the only one. While flipping through a student's camera that week I found she had taken the same photo! I wonder if she'll paint it.

Basil and Tomato

I didn't die! I sure felt like I was going to, towards the end of the half marathon on Sunday, but I am alive, and while sore, can now happily check that crazy stunt off my list. Here is a longer report, with pictures.

Der Hase (The Rabbit)

I figured I'd start with a still life for my first painting here in Germany. I found this bunny in St. Blasien in front of a store. It was so perfect next to the plant I took a picture and painted from that. I love all the grays and that cute face!
My friend, Jen, is holding another BUILD-A-BLOG class this weekend, and has also added some FREE newbie videos on her website. If you need some basic pointers about browsers, URL's and some important keyboard shortcuts, be sure to check it out!
