Field of Flowers

sold

After my fist abstract I went whole hog working on the second one. I ended up wiping it off about 5 times before I realized it just wasn't working. I needed some sort of plan. So I started looking through pictures on Pinterest for ideas. I realized I could take a photo I liked, use the colors and values, arrange them however I like, and make it completely abstract! And it worked!

This one needs to be ginormous - like 4 feet wide - and hanging right over my couch......

Isn't it fun and freeing! I love abstracts and abstracted landscspes😁. Same principles apply: design, value, color, composition. And the process is hypnotic!

Oh, alright, I like this one - there seems to be a definite design...

Abstracts are not as easy as some think!
I paint abstractly...and teach this style!
The colors, and design are SO Important!
Keep working on your Abstracts...They are FUN and so COOL!!!

I also love doing abstracts...especially after working hard on some other technical skill. They allow you to play with those qualities you really love in a painting as stand alone ideas. I also love the "Hanging Over the Rails". You really did get their butts right!

I am really enjoying your abstract explorations. So when will you be teaching a workshop on painting abstracts? ;-)

Hi Carol--
How exciting to be experimenting with abstraction! My only comment is to try larger canvasses for these efforts since you may want to get your whole arm involved and really get the feeling of color, movement, etc. Working on 6"x6" is like jazz dancing in a phone booth! -Susan in Toronto

I'm loving your abstracts as much as your other work. No matter what you do, it's with your unique style and fabulous technical skill.

Good for you! Such a different direction can stimulate the brain in unexpected, wonderful ways. And it should always be fun. :)

I wrote down your Formula for Abstraction because I've never thought about it in that way. Thanks.
