Wading in the Light

sold

I took the photos for this one in Portland last summer. My husband and I were wandering around the city in the evening and came upon this scene with lots of people, mostly kids, playing in the water. The sun was going down behind the buildings behind me, causing the shadow right at the bottom of the painting. It was such a cool sight! I took about 50 photos and still had to combine 2 of them to get this scene. I'm really proud of it.

It's a struggle to balance light and dark this time of day especially with photo references...you captured this moment beautifully Carol. The mother and child in the foreground shadow - pure joy.

Someday, when I grow up, maybe I will be more successful with combining photos. I know there are computer programs out there helpful in doing so. Another oops here. SO that being said, you were very successful and have painted a wonderful masterpiece.

I love squinting my eyes at this scene an seeing the fabulous way you have captured the shapes of shadowed vs. sunlit areas!
