Here is another doorway from San Francisco. One thing I've noticed when I peruse back through all the paintings I have collected on Pinterest is - I love light and shadow! So anytime I can capture it in a painting like this, I am thrilled. Has anyone had luck with taking HDR photos and painting from them? I've been curious about that. I haven't done it yet.

I've never gone to the trouble of creating an HDR reference photo, but if you have Photoshop the "Shadows/Highlights" option (click "Image", then "Adjustments" to find it) is really helpful. You have to play with all the knobs a bit before it makes sense, but it helps bring the shadows up to a reasonable level! =)
I didn't know what HDR was so I looked it up and here is a site that might help you know if you want to use HDR.

I haven't seen your staircase paintings before. I know they are hard as I learned some perspective by doing stairs. I sweat bullets!

Carol, I've used the HDR setting a couple of times on a variety of cameras, but either I'm not a good enough photographer to see that it matters, or I'm not a good enough "see-er" to be able to notice the difference. :)
