Discarded Shells

sold

It seems like I just got home, but I am off again tomorrow for Texas. This time it's for family and Christmas. I painted ahead before this last workshop so I would have a few things to post over the vacation. It won't be every day, but you'll still hear from me. Unfortunately this means I won't be able to ship any more paintings until after I get home - Jan 3rd. I apologize for any inconvenience!

Leaning on Leaning & workshop photos

sold

I just finished up my workshop here in Easton, MD. I had to cram my 5 days worth of material into 4 days, so it was a bit of a whirlwind experience. My kids were pretty good, though I could tell you a story or two about interesting camera angles and crazy roosters! No chickens in the classroom, though we did have some interesting eggs to paint. Below are my kiddos hard at work. The school is a long, narrow room, so we set everyone up right down the middle, which worked out great (click image to see it larger).

I was so busy I barely took any pictures. But we did get the group shot, minus one or two who had to leave early. You guys were great! Happy Holidays!!

The Greatest Gift

sold

I have to wake up at 3 in the morning so I can fly to Maryland for my next workshop. But don't feel too sorry for me. Unless you want to. : )

Stacks & Shadows

sold

I am quite pleased with this one. Sometimes my cups end up fussy because the values are so close and I am wrong on the first couple of tries. But these came out perfectly on the first try for every stroke. I LOVE it when that happens!

Salt or Sweet?

sold

I got this and a few other salt shakers from one of my kids at a workshop on Whidbey Island this year. She made me promise I would paint them, and I have been completely negligent up to this point. Sorry about that!

Cozy Up

sold

My husband and I escaped for a couple of romantic days in Portland. We love that we live so close! But we're glad we don't have to put up with the traffic and crowds every day. : )

Undressing in Front of the Mirror

sold

I went to our brand new Joanne's the other day and bought a whole slew (I love that word) of colored fabric. I felt sorry for the lady who cut it because I only needed 5/8 yard each of about 15 fabrics (sheepish grin). Anyway, I've actually been using it the last few days, but this is the first day I've draped it. It also works well for larger paintings - better than paper anyway.

Orange You Gonna Ask?

sold

Last week I had a lot of trouble with compositions. That's why I've been posting some old work. Nothing was seeming to gel and I was getting more and more frustrated. It happens! I have learned to accept it as part of the process, though the acceptance comes and goes too. : ) Anyway, I did this painting as I was clawing my way back out of the valley of doom. It seems a little floaty to me, but there is a simplicity to it that I like.

Called to Order

sold

And this one is 6x6 feet! Just kidding. : ) We're back to small. Someday I would love to find some giant brushes and paint a humongous panel, but that will have to wait until I have more presence of mind. And some good brushes. And I suppose I'll have reinforce the back of the panel... So much to think about.

Hippo Watching

sold

I had this idea forever ago of taking the video camera and taping a scene in order to be able to pick and choose the particular still to paint. Often with a regular camera I miss the best shots because I can't shoot quick enough! So I took the video camera to the zoo when we still lived in Texas. I quickly learned the trick was to stand still! But I got some great shots in the hippo room (do you see him?). I painted this once before but it was one of the paintings I lost in the fire, so I painted it again because I really liked it.

Tea Time

sold

This is another larger painting I did earlier this year. I remember when I arranged it, I had everything but the red tea bag and felt it still needed something. I think I tried every single other object in my studio before I realized a tea bag would be perfect! Luckily I have a whole slew of tea bags in all sorts of colors.
