I had a little epiphany this morning while I was running. And this may seem completely obvious, but it occurred to me that there is absolutely no formula for good art. You can follow every rule of thumb you've ever heard, but you are still not guaranteed a good painting.
I did a few larger paintings a number of months ago, and this is one of them. It is 12x12 inches. It seems positively huge compared to a 6x6, yet still a comfortable size.

i really like your bigger paintings. you should do more of them! smaller ones are not worth your time!
Love the angel:) And...I believe the more you love WHAT you are painting, the more you will be pleased with the finished product. Do you think that holds true? Paint what you love, love what you paint?

After a certain level of expertise even a not so good painting has wonderful areas... Just not the whole thing. Just like a golf pro may not win, but still have a great swing. It is the elusive quality of knowing I can improve, but still not getting to the level I want to that keeps me excited.

Your epiphany is totally true! Which is why we're addicted to painting, because it's like gambling. You win a few times followed by strings of losses (ok, that's probably me, not you!) but keep going searching for the "win" . I almost wrote "wine" which a totally different addiction. Painters Anonymous anyone?
This is fabulous!!! You sure got a lot of beautiful times in one 12x12 painting. Amazing. I may have to share this on my angel blog. :-)
You can see a large painting is not a lot of small paintings.
Love he comments above and agree with so many. It the magic that keeps us coming back. And the pure creation of something from nothing. It's funny I have a hard time with the 6X^. They are soo small, and a bit finicky. I have to do larger ones, or I would go crazy. Isn't great that we are all different.
