I got some new frames a while back from www.frankenframes.com (style #2026) and posted about them here. You may remember. I wrote about how I planned to back my panels so they were lifted up a bit, but I ended up doing something different than what I wrote (black foamboard). A very astute reader suggested velcro, which worked perfectly! Here are some pictures:

Good idea, the Velcro. I think it will also work for the so-called floating frames.

Hi Carol, I mentioned using velcro to you.:) Glad you tried it!! Works great, huh!? You and David have generously given so much to our painting community! I'm thrilled that I was able to give you a tiny little usable tip!!
I also put velcro tabs on my easel to hold paintings in place while I paint. And, I took your advice in your photo tutorial about using cardboard as a backdrop when shooting paintings. But, I added velcro to the cardboard that I use so I can pop panels on and off as needed and they are safe and secure when I take them outside to photograph. Another tip is to use a wooden skewer to help "lift" panels off of the velcro and minimize the need to touch the edges of the paintings. I put velcro on the back of my panels before I begin painting and leave it on through all stages until it's sold and I'm ready to ship it. Then I just peel it off and reuse it on another panel.:)
I use double sided foam mounting tape which also works well...but isn't so re-useable!

I have started painting on the small gesso boards and have been trying to find out how to frame them! (without actually going to a framer) Thank you for sharing the info! THANK YOU for including pictures! !
When you ordered your frames, did you order 6x6 or did you order something like 6 1/8 x 6 1/8? How much space do you 'float' around the outside?

Dawn, I ordered 6x6" frames. They know, since they're floater, to make them 1/8" bigger. Happy to help! : )
