Four Slice Flower

I had a little adventure in the ER Friday night after class, but don't worry - I'm fine. It turns out that long flight I was complaining about last week produced some clots that ended up in my lungs. I have a genetic condition that makes clots more likely for me and now I'm back on blood thinner, so this shouldn't happen again. I am headed home Tuesday, but I'll try to post pictures from the workshop before then. Thank you to my kids from last week who held my hand through it all!!!

I have been a follower of yours for awhile now. You have experienced quite a bit in a short amount of time. You are truly resilient. Glad to hear things are resolved. Maybe it's time to think about hosting workshops in Eugene? I know there's an airport there and plenty of lodging. I would make the effort!

I'm sorry to hear about your ER experience. Being sick is never fun, but when you're away from home, it feels even worse. I hope you are feeling much better soon!

P.S. I'm in love with this painting...so beautiful!

If we're talking DVT here, I am wondering if you can try to schedule your really distant workshops in a hopscotch fashion to keep plane rides shorter (and of course lots of walking during travel...and maybe compression stockings put on BEFORE getting out of the bed). I am sure you are aware of foods to avoid while on blood thinners (some thicken, some thin further...can get a little complicated). You sure scared the Hell out of a lot of people and I am praying for your full recovery and no recurrences. (Say, you could limit your travel a bit...the whole world would come to your doorstap in a flash if you chose to teach closer to home!) :->

Carol! Oh My Gosh! I open this up to admire the beautiful little flower painting and how amazing that glass with water is...and read what a time you must have had. I am so sorry you had I am sure a scary adventure in the ER and hope they have you all truly okay again. I am thinking you will have to start walking the aisle of the plane on these long flights and take care so there are no more adventures...You are such a much loved treasure and we all need you- no more adventures please! Miss you and major hugs and XO's!

Carol! That is so scary!! SO glad you are okay. Maybe you should just stay home from now on and write a million insturction books and art bytes. :))) And I love the painting too.

Carol! So sorry to hear about your ER trip, never a fun experience. Glad you are doing better, but be sure to take care of yourself! I know you know how, now you just have to do! Sending love and light your way.
I love the reds with the oranges, neat combination.

I was very saddened by your post, Carol. Having met you at your workshop and learning of your health condition, I was thinking then that you are so young to be dealing with a condition so serious, and that you do it with grace. For your followers, Carol follows a very restricted diet religiously, and is in top physical shape due to exercise routines. I do hope that this can be managed safely and allow you to do all that you desire. Your painting is AWESOME as usual. The composition and color scheme are dreamy!

Carol, first off I want to let you know that this is my favorite painting that you have done - ever! I look at every blog post and have your art books and this tops them all. The colors just zing and the composition is masterful & the level of detail is just right!
Secondly, I want to join the other commenters - commentators - fans - friends who are suggesting that you start holding your workshops closer to home! Eugene or Portland are both wonderful places to visit and I think you could fill up as many workshops as you care to give. It's easy to fly to Portland and the trip to Eugene by train or car is quite beautiful, rain or shine!
Hopefully you can take the next 2 months to relax and then take that trip to Toronto and back in several easy hops!
Best wishes for a quick recovery and lots of relaxation time on the beach!

LOVE the painting Carol, but the news...yikes!- that is some scary stuff! So glad you came through it okay. I agree with the friends here- the world would likely come to your doorstep if you offered workshops close to you! Whew, I'm going back to admiring this rose...and oranges slices that open up like petals- such a cool composition!

Oh dear, thankfully you got care in time - so glad you're okay! The others may be onto something. Stellar carnation by the way : ) Best wishes from up north. Hugs.

Carol, it looks like if you continue these workshop flights you are going to have to start drinking more wine "During" the flight. That will keep you blood thinned out. You may stagger more during the workshop though.
I like the other idea better: Carol Marine's International Workshops in Eugene Oregon.
Guarason Keeler (SP) on NPR had a special skit on Eugen Oregon last weekend. It was funny.
Get well and get home safely.

I'm so glad you're feeling better! Nothing like a scare like that to put things in perspective. I love your work and your teaching; here's hoping you continue to do and enjoy it for many more years!! All the best.

Time for what my friends and I call Exquisite self care. Not pretty good care or good care but "Exquisite".
And on a side note that is the peony I have been pursuing relentlessly but that is a totally different story.

OK, that's what I get for looking at the painting and clicking 'next'!!!!!! Thank you for posting this beautiful painting. I will always be nervous about the clots. Let me be nervous. YOU forget about them and take your medicine, and twirl your ankles, and walk around on the plane.... do I have to come with you to make sure you do?????
OMG. Prayers said for your clean bill of health. I agree with Lisa... Let Mohammed come to the Mountain!!!!

That must have been so frightening for everyone, including David. So happy you're well. Count me in as someone who would travel to Eugene to paint with you!

I was in Northernmost California for the last week and thought of you often. I grew up in Humboldt County (in Arcata) and consider it one of the most beautiful places I know. If your family is looking for a great road trip, consider heading there, and you might want to make your visit coincide with the the Kinetic Sculpture Race. Redwood forests, beaches, marsh wildlife sanctuaries and more within just a few miles and very colorful culture as well. Beautiful and fun! Take care!
