One Brave Soul

Today I started a workshop here on Whidbey Island, which, if you've never been, is a real treat to visit! Not only is the scenery to die for, the town itself is incredibly cute. My kids seem nice so far, but they always do at first. We'll see how they shape up as the week progresses. Today I painted apples for my demo, but this one is actually from last week and available. I envisioned them as young swimmers on the first day of the year it might actually be warm enough to swim ... but still chilly. And the one in front has been told to dive.

I love the bright red apple in the upper left corner. Is the apple in the foreground brave for getting ready to dive .. or is the apple braving a piece of American cheese? :)

Nice! Especially the slice of Velveeta.

Another winner! I think these 2 apple paintings are great. Love the color combos in both. We all know too that brave one will get pushed.

How you keep coming up with these sophisticated, yet simple, compositions after all these years is amazing to me. Wow!

Belles à croquer ces pommes au bord de l'eau, j'en ferais bien mon déjeuner sur l'herbe !

Vibrant work - am a fan - still-life gets over looked in the grand art historical outlook - but there's a real rich heritage there - Chardan, The dutch masters - etc! not to mention Matisse and co. - have you seen the work of William Scott - Scots/Irish still-life artist - based in UK all his life - worth a look - Cormac

Beautiful shiny Apples! I love the slice of Cheddar! True Cormac, history ignores still life but in daily painting still life is king!! Does that mean history will ignore daily painting? Who knows!!
