I thought I'd drop into cyber-world for a minute today to post my self-portrait for the Daily Paintworks "All about Me" Challenge! I've been teaching the last couple of days and as usual am completely exhausted at the end of each day. Thank goodness for wine is all I can say. But, about this painting above, I was outside one day taking pictures of my paintings for my blog and I thought, maybe we should have a self-portrait challenge - I think I'll take a picture for my reference. So I turned my camera around, clicked off a few of my most normal faces, and painted my favorite. I'm quite happy with the result. I think I'll hang it on the wall in my studio as a reminder to never take myself too seriously!

Very cool! Can't wait to read more about the challenge.
you are too funny.
You are much prettier than this- but I love it!
Well done- as always!
Wow Carol. That is really beautifully painted.. Love the red nose.
this is priceless! Just love it.
Carol your self portrait is fabulous and it shows your sparkling personality. Wonderful!
Okay, you are definitely crazy. That is good to know!
Love it!
This painting proves what a fine artist you are--the ability to paint such a crazy expression on a a normally very attractive face--good example of not taking yourself too seriously.
I love it, Carol! It's great!
I am so happy you told me that it is from(funny)photos, because I was dreading standing in front of a mirror for two hours or so!
Also, I was thinking maybe animals might be a good challenge. But since chickens, cows, birds have been done, they should be off limits. Hum..what do you think?
That open eyeball cracks me up! I don't know if I have the guts to try this challenge. I painted a self-portrait once before and it came out life sized and really freaked me out. Kinda creepy. I used a mirror. Maybe I'll try the camera. Yours is fun, not creepy! Best challenge yet, Carol!
A perpetual reminder to SQUINT! Love it! And we are on the same page - Monday night is MY Challenge meeting for my South Shore peeps - and my month is next month - guess what my choice was for our May Challenge - Self Portraits! Well, if they turn out we'll post them on the DP site, huh?
You said a while ago you wanted to do more portraits - so here you go! I think you should do a series of these 'honest' portraits ... whimsical! But really, dear, you are so pretty - you should do a 'nice' one, too.. for David!
OMG, woman...you ROCK!

Oh Carol I love it! Another example of your wonderful sense of humor. Can't wait to see the results of this challenge, I hope people follow your lead and paint silly poses.
Thank God for wine indeed. Just great. Your talent, as well as your sense of humor comes right out at me on this one.
However did you hold that pose for long enough to paint?? Great rendition though, lol...If you are doing more portrait, have you heard of the workshops on the cape that Cedric Egeli (sp?) is holding? He's pheonomenal...I'm taking a couple workshops at the Cape School of Art, but not his unfortunately, I'm still too new for portraiture! I love the challenge though....and I have just the hat to wear in mine!

This is such a fun self portrait and exemplifies your wonderfully humorous personality and spirit!!! You are a remarkable teacher, genuinely nice, and totally gifted. Thank you so much for coming to teach us all here in Atlanta!!! Not only do you have a gift for teaching, but a big heart for sharing...thanks!!!
Love this!! Wonderfully done sculpted brush marks on a fun and whimsical self portrait. The eyes are amazingly done. Love the mouth- those are hard. It all just reads correctly- except for the fact that you are truly very pretty! Great challenge.
Hilarious!
Carol what a pose! LOL Love the extra red in the squinted eye and tip of your nose and the reflected light on the receding planes of your face. Your compositions always amaze and delight me!
