Delve Into Chaos - SOLD

I am in Cypress Mill, TX this week, teaching a 5-day workshop. It probably seems like I'm doing this a lot lately, and that's because I am. Through a scheduling glitch (my bad) I overbooked myself this month. Wine helps me through. : )
Thanks to all of you who weighed in on the "still" life painting I posted a couple days ago. It was very interesting hearing all the opinions. Today I am posting an attempt at folds that I think is my best ever. Ok, so I didn't notice until afterwards that the apples were right SMACK in the middle - I still think think the folds are killer.

I agree-the folds are really good.

You're right, the folds are good! They have enough interest to distract from the placement of apples.

ABSOLUTELY killer! And you need to know the rules to break them 'correctly'.. it looks great :)

Stay healthy and sane doing the 2 this month!

The folds are killer, wine certainly DOES help, and I love the apples smack dab in the middle! Sometimes rules are made to be broken!

beautifully done. I think folds are soooo hard!

Hi carol, I think the reason the turquoise bottle painting is so quiet is because you usually have a lot of brushstrokes going every which way in the background and this is smoother looking and all one color basically. Good reason for us(your blog followers) to try the every stroke a different color, since I knowIi am often a one color person and a smoother for too much in one area of my paintings. I want to be an exciting painter like you are! :)

What? Are you kidding? You put the apples in the middle 'on purpose' right... The folds are outstanding.

You are right the folds just reach out and grab you! So who cares if the apples are in the middle.

The folds are perfect - you make it look so easy! I don't care that the apples are smack in the middle - the way they are leaning away from one another moves the eye.
Love it!

Yes, I like the folds, too. But I really like the apple green with the shades of violet. Also like the strength inherent in a SMACK in the middle composition. Probably over-use it, myself.

LOL, I don't know about you but I see a face in this one! I do love the folds as well!

See, that's the genius of it -- that you DON'T notice that the apples are right smack in the middle! This is the kind of compositional daring that I love! It also could be seen as a 2-object composition, which is also unconventional. (But really, it's 3 objects: 2 apples and a cloth...)

I think the composition is great the way it is, despite "all rules" :-)
It 's an exciting painting
and I really love your colors.
You 're inspiring.

The apples do not appear to be centered due to the good composition. Do not mention it again and no one will know.
