I had the flu the last few days. They say having a kid in Kindergarden does that to you. Luckily I was ahead with my paintings, and for just this kind of thing, so I posted anyway. I finally felt well enough today to get back into the studio, and proceeded to paint the most horrible painting of my life (not this one). Ok, maybe not THE most horrible, but pretty awful. Years ago I would have beaten myself up over it, but I am proud to say I actually laughed, wiped it off, and quit. Tomorrow is another day.

I like the composition. Your cups are always fun! And, I LOVE your wipe out attitude, especially after having a week of them!!
Hope your feeling better! :-)
Oh man. That makes me feel so good. I did the same thing this week and it was liberating. (Read: Humbling) Sure gets the ego back in line and reminds us that it doesn't come easy1
Ooo! Love it! The directions of the cup handles, combined with the blue of the shadows, really keeps the eye going 'round!
It is pretty liberating when you can finally stop worrying about slogging on with a bad painting, and instead just wipe it off and start fresh. One of the hardest things for me to realize is when I am having a "slump" of a day, sometimes it is just better to wipe it off, quit, and come back tomorrow. Great advice!
Get well soon,Carol!
Beautiful piece Carol.
this is the cool thing about blogs...it is real...I wonder how I can do a painting that I think is pretty good one day and the next I just struggle with and can't find my feet....with all your experience, it is nice to know that we all do this to some extent....you inspire me!
What a wonderful composition. You are so good at that!
Good for you for being strong and wiping out what didn't work. Hope you feel 100% soon. I remember those kindergarten/elementary school years. Eeek! Hang in there!
It was a major turning point in my life when i learned to "wipe" it off. Thanks for sharing & feel better.
My mom, Charleine Guy, recommended you to me, and I love your work AND your attitude! Hope you feel better soon... -Karen
I never wipe... (that doesn't sound good does it) I always destroy.
I struggle with setting up a still life. You make it look fun and easy. I love looking at your paintings because you think out of the box. And after taking your workshop, I find myself using my color wheel more to give myself the reassurance and crutch I need to get better at setting up the still lifes. Thanks.
I'm loving all the 'white' in this.
Feel better soon!
Carol: I think you have been painting better than ever lately. You are really terrific. I was hoping to steal a small painting on the cheap but now too many people are realizing how good you are. I might have came to the party too late.
Its hard to believe that you are capable of doing a bad piece - you are consistently awesome! glad you can laugh at that experience, and thankyou for sharing it. we can all relate! Keep up the great work, Carol :-) -
Patti
Thanks for that comment about wiping the painting off! I tell myself, "Even Carol has to wipe off a painting sometimes" but often I don't really believe it. Nice to know it still happens!
