"Passing the Bottle" - SOLD

While I was in Germany recently I painted my son, Jacob, for the first time. In the reference photo (yeah, you think I'd paint a 5-yr-old from life?!) he was making a silly face. I thought I could do it justice, but now I wish I'da painted a regular face. I'll try again at some point.

Oh!! I think it is a great painting of him! I love the silly face and the eyes are just like I remember them from the photos you showed us. Great job!! And, I watched the mini interview and saw all your paintings on the video. So cool! Kinda made me feel like I was there a little bit!

Love this one...can't imagine how you didn't "do it justice". Wonderfully painted and is a joy to look at it!

Powerful stuff with that glass, Carol! Wow.
I think you should paint Jacob more often. You certainly caught the fun spiritedness of him! I think, though, that painting your own children is hard. You're going to love this painting forever!

Carol, been following your blog for several months now (and I'm taking a workshop in Sep!) It has been interesting to see your take on figures lately. I find I am loving the softened edges & the small portrait of your son is simply delightful. You seem to have captured a mischievous moment & I can almost feel him springing up & off to play as soon as the photo was taken!

Love how loose you manage to keep your work. Looking forward to the workshop!

Carol both pieces are beautiful! But I LOVE the one of your son. I guess cuz portraits are my thing. I paint my children and not much else! Which I guess is not so good for sales (because I can't bear to part with them!), but it is great for my soul. I would love to see more portraits from you. :)

What a cute portrait. You captured the fun in the painting.

An artist's perceived ability to capture their own loved ones likenesses is always more critical than an objective viewer. (I should know!)
I think the 'silly face' portrait is absolutely PERFECT for this subject!
(and btw, the HAND is sheer genius)

what a fabulous painting of Jacob. Kid portraits are almost always kind of stilted because they are smiling but this is a natural pose. Beautifully done, and you know your kid's face!
As usual the other painting is home run ;)

Hi Gal, I've never seen your blog before but a friend directed me to it. Great energy! I especially liked the little picture of your son. Why not do more figures? All those still lives get boring.
