"Compelling Read" - SOLD

I spend a lot of time in airports. It's the only part about travelling I don't like. Well, that and the sardine-can airplanes. But, one good thing that has come out of it is the photo for this painting. I can't even tell you how fast I whipped out my camera when I saw this guy. Wow - what perfect light.

I love that you are painting figuratives!! You make it look so easy. All of them are just as visually exciting as they can be. And it looks like you're having such fun with the process. Way to go, Carol!

I love this ,Carol. My favorite subject. Its wonderful when you can catch people being themselves before they notice you. Did he look at you after you took the shot? I find that people can always sense when you are focused on them. I also really like the way that you framed your subject. Its an interesting composition.

Carol, all those still life paintings with fruit, vegetables, and whatever--beautiful works of art themselves -- they have prepared you for some WONDERFUL work in these figuratives. I am honored to be an audience to your development as a truly fine artist.

This is really awesome! It is the kind of impressionistic study I aspire to to doing.

That's so beautiful. I LOVE paintings of people reading, I think it's because they get so swept away and usually have no idea that you're watching them. And I mean that in a very un-stalkerish way.

And that light is totally singing. Gorgeous!

So inspiring Carol! Thank you! I will never think of waiting at the airport as drudgery again! Instead, it is opportunity! Love the light blue "stripe" in the background and then how the peachy orange of the flesh intersects it. Very awesome! More! More!

Carol, your figure works are wonderful. How do you capture them with a photo unknowingly?

Fantastic, Carol. I love how deliberate this is. And what we see of his expression (and the glasses) with what appears to be just a few strokes. You have the "suggesting" totally down. Not to mention that it's just beautiful.

I love everything about this.
Composition, subject, mood, story (what's he reading?), and of course, as always, execution!
Kind of reminds me a bit about when I worked in London fresh out of college.
The first thing I'd do when I got to work was draw someone from memory, but first I had to imagine drawing the unknowing model while I stared at them on the tube train.
Must have seemed a mite creepy for anyone that noticed!
