So the day after the workshop in Maine last weekend, several of us got together to do some plein airing. Unfortunately the morning dawned gray gray gray. It drizzled a little, but the real problem was general lack of light. Or interesting light anyway. Now, I say that, and it sounds like an excuse and ... well, it is. I could have made more of it, but I didn't. This was my first painting:
I was painting with Bobbi, Suzanne, Bruce and Colin (Page). The first three are friends, and Colin I met in person for the first time that day. It was VERY cool meeting him as I have been a big fan of his for years. He is a super cool guy - very kind and humble. Plus he's like 6'7" or something crazy like that and doesn't wear shoes. You can't help but like him!

No "good" light that day = a wonderful painting! I really like it! I checked out the others' pages, and they are all great. I especially enjoyed the light in Colin's work, thanks for sharing those with us. I am heading tomorrow to Maine for an Artist Residency in Adadia National Park, can't wait!
I think the captured the grey day perfectly. I live in a marina and this is exactly what it looks like half the time. Grey paintings are beautiful too.
I'm a big fan of Colin's, too.! I even went to a gallery in Philly just to see his work! I lice the soft light of your boat piece.
who needs light, apparently -- I love this painting! Granted, the subject automatically draws me, but you capture the atmosphere so well.
light is everything but this came out fine.
You did a great job capturing the light in spite of the gray weather. I took a 2 day workshop with Colin in June and the light was "flat" the whole time. Of course, it doesn't phase Colin who can paint in any weather conditions...
