This was a great night! James and I bought little head-lamps so we could each attempt a nocturne (painting at night - a first for both of us). We set up right in the middle of the street in Telluride, in a special middle lane just for parking. We drew a LOT of attention, but it was fun. James said "better paint the guys first because they'll move." So I did, and got one completely out of proportion. But I was scared and going on adrenaline, so I kept going with the rest of it. Well, by the time I'd gotten everything else painted in, the guys were still there, so I decided to wipe one out and try him again. Right then ... they got up to leave! But they'd seen us painting and came out to see. I told them they'd gotten up a minute too soon, so they sat back down for us. What troopers!! This was really fun and I hope to try it again at some point.
ps. He hasn't posted his nocturne yet, but if you check James' blog you'll see a lot of the same scenes I've posted. I thought it was really interesting to see how different his take was every time.

I really like this -- the interior light splling out, and the little highlights of the lighting inside. It makes me want to walk into this place.
When you wear your headlamps at night, you can tell people you're a "Fine Art Miner" painting up some treasure!

This is awesome! I totally feel I am out in the middle of the street with you. Relaxed scene but somehow a bit of adrenaline comes through. How in the world did you do all that... The light and shadow and sense of time of day are incredible.
I love your landscapes...i love the still lives too but when I see the landscapes in thumbnail they look like photos but when you arrive at the blog they are sumptious, energetic oil paintings marvellous!

Love this, so interesting. I have been wanting to go out and paint at night. I thought maybe the next full moon would be a good time.
Carol, James has now posted and even with a different palette, it's clear you were out there together painting, nerves and all. They are lovely gems and make me want to be brave about painting in front of people even though its hard. Thanks for admitting that....

Carol..I've been keeping an eye on your career for a while now. You've given an old warhorse like me inspiration both from your fresh style to your persistence. I see now this painting is being bid way up to over $500 so far! It's a great piece and your talent is worth every penny of it and more. Way to go!!
