"Im Schluchsee" - SOLD

You might remember this scene from last year (see below). I wanted to try it again and I waited until the sun was out to have the same light. Even still I had to wait some for clouds to pass. You can see from the old one that there were actually more houses. I really liked the first one, but I hope you'll agree that I've improved a bit since then? Especially with the distant stuff?

Nice return painting. You do have patience and the story about the water and the boots gave me a chill! Great job. Ruth

I like 'em both.
The simplicity of the first one makes it just as strong today but I can see the progress in the way you painted the distance. The colors recede.
You can paint anything...really

It's really been fun watching you practice in new directions in Germany. I hope you are feeling good about you efforts!

Thankyou for showing both. Do you think its the position of the lead in road that makes the recent work more successful? Or is it the smaller softer area of sky? I don't know but the the second holds my attention and is a lovely painting of place.

I like both paintings. I do agree that with distance, in the recent one you have more depth. The roofs get cooler and grayer - more atmosphere. Fabulous!

Wow, Carol, these are both sooo nice. There are lots of things I like about each one. I see what you mean about the color recession and softness of the background of the newer piece, but I think both of these are lovely.

Yes, the background has more depth/more atmosphere, because there's less contrast now - and no saturation of color, so it receding nicely, good work! Cropping out most of the sky on the new one creates more impact for the hillside.
