"Inks Creek"

This was done from a photo I took out at Inks Lake on our last visit. It had been raining quite a bit, and there were creeks running all through the campground.
So, I got a little burnt out on still life and have been trying some new things lately. I've been working a lot from old photos, and painting outside when I can. And I must admit I feel awfully exposed sharing these new things with you. Plein air (painting outside) especially is HARD! So please bear with me while I experiment. And thank you! : )

New is good it's how we progress and I bet when you go back to your still lifes it will bring something new to them too :)

I love your fresh little studies!

Stay with it Carol!
Outside painting is also the best way to get truly blissed out on colour and nature at the same time.

I find new things to learn from every painting trip I make outdoors.

Yes, it is hard , but it's so much fun!

Happy Easter!

This is lovely! I particularly like the blue in the creek (and how it's spotty), the very light base of the trees, and the beautiful underpainting showing through in the background trees. You make it look so simple.

The fact that you experiment and that you are willing to show us all, is a great inspiration. Please don't stop!

Thank you for sharing these with us. I have just started a painting blog, and hope to post every day too. Your discipline is amazing, and I am happy to hear you get bored with still life too! I am enjoying the plain air and photo works. Your colors are so clean and clear while still staying very painterly. Thanks!

good on ya!! plein air is so much fun but hard in so many ways! -the sun, the wind (ever had your easel go flying?) the bugs,(especially in the south), the people, (sometimes wanting to pose for you or to give it a try themselves), and the hardest thing for me is deciding what to leave out and what to move around..with so much to look at, it's like being a kid in a candy store! - i'm sure you have some trusty little viewfinders that help you get your bearings a bit. anyway - i'm excited for you and keep it up!!!

This whole adventure is about growth and change, right? Love seeing these!

You know, Carol that art is all about growth and growth often comes through diversity. I was just thinking when I saw this little thumbnail, that I am enjoying your landscapes so much.

I am also quite daunted by plein air... yours are lovely - they have freshness and movement. Thanks for daring to share with us - and keep up the good work! It is just warming up here in Denver, I am challenging myself to get outside and do some plein air as well.....

I love these little landscape pieces you are doing, it's nice to shake things up a bit, it's like stretching your mind.
