I got some great advice from Liz Wiltzen, previous kid and fabulous painter, yesterday after my post about being hesitant to paint in my new studio. She said:
I moved into a new studio in December, and it took me 3 weeks to stop puttzing (cleaning, organizing, painting walls etc.) for the same reason. Then I did my first painting and it was quite underwhelming. It actually took about 3 or 4 to get warmed up to the new space and do something I was happy with. You might want to just jump in and get the first one over with, good or bad, it'll get the ball rolling in there.
So I got in there and painted today and ... my first painting was underwhelming indeed. So I wiped it and started over and was quite pleased after that. Thank you for the push, Liz!

You're welcome Carol, glad you went with the push! Great job on this one, I'd say you're warmed up now!!
I predict you are going to LOVE your new space, and the paintings will flow. May the force be with you...
So you are now painting in your new studio...that is great!!!
No "putzen" allowed girl!!!!! It is way too clean in there,,,now me...yikes, I guess I should do a wee bit of putzen :) Off to work.
I am still in apple heaven :)
These apples are particularly gorgeous: rich, full and crispy : ) And I really love your shadows.
Talk about encouragement! I wanted to thank you for encouraging me! I talked with you at the WVAL meeting/demo about finding time to paint and about oils, method, etc. Well, I painted! and I like what I painted! I think I still have a long way to go to get my "painting muscle" back in shape but just wanted to let you know that I hope to begin a painting-a-day ...one day real soon. I have been reading your blog and started one of my own a while back to get my "blog muscle" in shape. I posted my painting there. First oil in about 7 years! The colors are brighter in person. check it out! Thanks again... You're terrific!
Hi Carol,
Good piece of advice here regarding the studio and just jumping in. Jumping in seems to be the solution to a lot of art problems it seems. Love your work.
all the best,
Todd
Knockout composition!
Oh!! Carol, How exciting! Congratulations on your new studio!!
That is wonderful news! Also, I love your green apple paintings, really beautiful!! Best wishes for lots of fabulous paintings to come in your new studio!!!
Hi Carol,
There's a little ditty by The White Stripes that goes:
"Well you're in your little room
And you're working on something good.
But if it's really good
you're gonna need a bigger room.
And when you're in the bigger room
you might not know what to do.
You might have to think of
how you got started
sitting in your little room."
I'm a big fan by the way. Of you and The White Stripes!
